Owner Left Behind Dog At A Train Station

Ayr railway station, which is located 40 miles southwest of Glasgow, Scotland, was recently home to a heartbreaking situation.

Kai, a shar-pei crossbreed, was sitting there like he was waiting for his train. He was even attached to a suitcase that contained his belongings: some toys, a pillow, a water bowl and some food. He was alone.

According to the Daily Mail, The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) was soon on the scene and took him in.

However, they weren't sure what to do with him, especially since he needed surgery due to his eyelids curling inwards, a procedure that would cost around $1,500. And they had to find a caring home for him too, especially since it appeared that the dog may have been abused. Fortunately, Kai was microchipped, which allowed the organization to discover some information on him.

However, it did not provide the most important piece: who his owner is. It did provide information on who Kai's owner was through 2013, but that person had sold him that year and did not know what happened to him afterwards and had no contact information for Kai's subsequent owner.

Whoever that new owner was attempted to sell Kai on Gumtree, a British website that hosts classified ads. He arranged to meet a women in Ayr and was expecting to sell Kai to her for $500.

However, she quickly noticed that the dog that was being presented to her was not who was pictured in the ad. But she still considered making the exchange although she was hesitant and asked to take Kai for a walk. He then asked for a $180 deposit before panicking and rushing off, driving away in his car.

The woman immediately called him, demanding that he come back for his dog, but he never did.

She didn't know what to do with this terrified animal since she had to catch a train that was departing soon, the final train of the day to her destination in Aberdeen, to take care of her daughter, who suffers from asthma. She's the one who tied Kai to the suitcase and reluctantly left him there.

Fortunately, this heartbreaking story has a happy ending. Strangers donated more than $3,000 to take care of Kai's surgery, and the animal was adopted by Ian Russell, a 52-year-old hydraulic engineer, after more than 100 people had voiced interest in taking care of Kai.

Russell is still stunned that he was the one chosen, and he and Kai are so happy together.

What would you have done if you had come across Kai? Do you think that the woman who abandoned him should have gone about things differently?
