On July 20th in the Highlands of Scotland, the Golden Retriever Club met to commemorate the popular breed's 150th anniversary. A total of 361 of these loyal and lovable labs were on the scene to steal the show. Scotland is the land where this breed first originated, so it's only natural that the party would be held there!

Scottish Golden Retriever Club Chairman Doreen McGuan raved about the celebration, saying:

"The 150th has been a roaring success."

The group has grown rapidly in the past few years. The 2006 gathering included 188 golden retrievers. This year's group of 361 is the organization's largest gathering to date.

Golden Retrievers have a prestigious history. In 1868 a landowner, Dudley Majoribanks, who was called "Lord Tweedmouth," started the breed in Tomich near Glen Affric. Lord Tweedmouth's goal was to create a dog who could swim long distances in order to bring back wildfoul during hunting trips over lakes, ponds, and streams. Hence the name, "Golden Retriever."

Pictures of the anniversary celebration for this beloved dog breed were shared far and wide via social media. People can't get enough of watching the adorable antics of these dogs as they cuddle with their owners. It's no mystery why these pics went viral. These dogs are just so unbelievably cute!

Along with a formal dinner in honor of the golden retriever breed, those in attendance at the gathering enjoyed a championship dog show.
