Abandoned pets have become a problem in modern society. You may have bought a cat at a pet story only to discover that you cannot take care of the pet. Hopefully, you found a home for your cat. If you love cats, your heart is sure to melt when you read this story.

Our story begins with the sounds of a cat's meows becoming louder. The sound was coming from a dumpster. A woman heard the meows and looked inside the dumpster to find an abandoned calico kitten. The kitten was so small that its eyes were not yet open. The woman estimated that the calico kitten was not even a week old.

It was obvious that the kitten had experienced its share of trauma. With a broken leg and gangrene on her paw, the kitten looked forlorn and helpless. Fortunately, the woman was a cat lover. She had taken care of many stray kittens in the past. So, she gathered the tiny kitten into her arms and took her home.

The woman fed the kitten with a bottle. The kitten gradually became healthier and gained more physical strength. Although she lost her paw due to the gangrene, she continued to fight for her life. The woman named her kitten "Martyr." Martyr had a sweet, gentle disposition.

The woman could not bring herself to part with her kitten. So, she decided to keep the kitten. One day, the woman found out that Martyr was a boy. If you have any knowledge about calico cats, you know that they normally belong to the female sex. Male calico cats are extremely uncommon. According to statistics, there is only one male calico cat within a group of 3,000 calico cats.

While female calico cats display black and orange colors, males are solid black or solid orange. Females have 2 X-chromosomes. The additional chromosome gives a female calico cat her dual colors. The reason that the woman thought Martyr was a female is that the kitten had two colors based on his unusual dual X chromosomes.

The woman's niece decided to share pictures of Martyr on her social media. Martyr's true story immediately went viral because people found it difficult to believe that the woman had discovered such a rare cat. Today, Martyr is a happy, contented calico cat.
