Recently, tragedy struck for the Harmon Family as Sybil Peacock Harmon, unfortunately, passed away at 103. Harmon has certainly lived an interesting life as one of Delta Airlines' first flight attendants. She originally embarked on the position at the age of 24. During this time in Delta's history, flight attendants were required to also be registered nurses.

Luckily, Harmon had just completed nursing school and was completely qualified to join Delta as a flight attendant. Delta Airlines told TODAY in a statement upon learning of Sybil's untimely passing:

“We’re saddened to learn of Sybil Peacock Harmon’s passing. Sybil was a beloved member of the Delta family who left her mark as a member of our first class of flight attendants. We will cherish her memory and wish her loved ones well in this difficult time.”

For her 102nd birthday in 2018, Delta threw her a party. During the party, Harmon reminisced on her life as a flight attendant. She remarked how during the earlier days flight attendants enjoyed celebrity status and children would often ask her for autographs.

A few of her other more memorable moments include providing passengers with gum to attempt to alleviate cabin depressurization and handing out fried chicken and cokes for the inflight meal. Sybil left Delta in 1943 and decided to join the military during WWII.

During her military career, she rose to the ranks of special duty nurse and finally 1st Lieutenant. Upon her retirement from the military, Sybil married Captain Wallace Harmon and the two were lucky enough to give birth to a beautiful daughter named Peggy.

Coincidently, Peggy would go on to follow in her mother's footsteps and became a flight attendant for 25 years.
