On Duty Police Officer Gets Out Of Car When He Saw A Boy Throwing A Football Alone

Home surveillance cameras are a useful tool when it comes to capturing images of possible trespassers. Some people also use them to find out if the person at their door is someone they want to welcome or an unwanted door-to-door salesperson.

One family in South Carolina was pleasantly surprised and touched to see the thoughtful actions taken by a local police officer in the city of Summerville. The video of his deed of kindness quickly went viral.

The footage shows a boy throwing a football in his front yard. Unfortunately, the child doesn't have anyone around to play catch with him. Tossing a football to yourself just isn't as much fun as throwing it back and forth with someone else.

A police officer approached the scene in his patrol car. The officer climbed out of his squad car. Then, he approached the boy on his lawn and offered to play catch with him. The boy eagerly accepted his offer, and the two had a blast throwing the football around for a few minutes.

Footage of the video made its way into the hands of the Summerville Police Department, who chose to add it to their department's Facebook page. They praised the officer, FTO. T. Bilancione. They included a heartwarming message that was sent to them from the boy's mom.

In the message, she remarked that the officer taking time out of his schedule to play catch with her son really made the boy's day. Her exact description of the officer ended with the exclamation, "he rocks!!!"

In a day and age when community relations between the public and police officers can sometimes feel strained, it makes a huge difference when officers go out of their way to show such kindness and camaraderie to those they've sworn to protect. We agree with the boy's mother that this police officer from the Summerville, SC, police department and the many other wonderful law enforcement officials out there deserve plenty of thanks and praise for helping to make their communities a better place.

We would love to know your reaction to this video in the comments. If you're grateful for the thoughtful actions of this fine police officer and want to honor him, pass this story along to all of your friends and family!
