Older Brothers Dress Up And Make Halloween A Memorable Time For Their Younger Sister

Halloween is one of the most fun holidays to celebrate. With candy, costumes, and spooky decorations, this holiday is filled with tricks, treats, and plenty of fun. It’s a great time to show off your creativity and designing skills while having fun with your friends and family members by putting together the most inventive costumes you can think of.

Patti Schmidt is a photographer based in New Jersey and is also a loving mom of four. She has three grown sons in their twenties and one 5-year-old daughter. Schmidt was 44 years old when she found out she was pregnant with her daughter.

Despite their huge age difference, her children get along extremely well and have an immense amount of love for one another. Celebrating Halloween has become a fun family tradition for the bunch, and their creativity remains unmatched. Her grown sons, Larry, Patrick, and Gavin, go all out for their younger sister, Avery, to make every Halloween a memorable occasion. Two of them even travel from out of state to keep the tradition going.

On Oct. 1, 2021, Schmidt shared a compilation video showcasing the Halloween costumes her sons and daughter dressed up in during the past four Halloweens. The three grown brothers really went all out to make the holiday as special as possible for their little sister, showing off just how much fun they all have with each other. The video has since gone viral, capturing the hearts of people from all over the world as they count down the days to find out what the family will dress up as for Halloween 2021.

Speaking with TODAY in October 2021, Schmidt revealed that everyone was surprised to find out that she was pregnant again at the age of 44. “Initially they were as surprised as we first were, and that quickly turned to excitement,” she said. “By the time I had turned 40 I had given up hope for another baby, but there were other plans in store for us.”

Wanting to make sure that Avery had fun Halloween memories just like the boys did, the family started a new tradition: making amazing family costumes that included all four children. As seen in Schmidt’s Instagram video, the tradition started in 2017 with her kids dressing up as characters from “The Wizard of Oz.”

The theme for 2018 was “Star Wars,” and 2019’s was “Game of Thrones.” In 2020, the group’s costumes were based on the movie “The Princess Bride,” which Schmidt revealed were her favorite costumes so far. It’s clear that everyone else loves the tradition just as much as the family does; Schmidt’s Instagram video has received close to 300,000 likes and close to 1,000 comments.

The mom of four said that this year’s costumes will be kept a secret until Halloween, but her sons don’t mind partaking in the yearly tradition. “They’ve never balked… they’ve always been willing,” she said. “But there may or may not be a good-natured grown or two when I pull out the next theme. They mostly laugh about it.”

It’s clear the whole family adores each other, especially Avery and her older brothers. Schmidt explained, “They have such a unique and special relationship.”
