You try to follow the traffic rules. But you may occasionally go a bit over the speed limit or only slow down for a traffic stop, if you think no one is looking at you or there aren’t any cameras around. Many people would go ahead and go through that stop sign or stoplight if they thought no one would get hurt.

Try this bus-related scenario. A school bus has stopped right in front of you. It isn’t in your lane. The sign on the bus says that there is no passing when the lights are flashing. But do you stop or do you go around the bus? The right answer to that question is that you stop when the red lights are flashing.

Moms Monica Douglas and Kristen Rieger are two moms in Pasco County, Florida who are sick and tired of the way drivers pass the bus when it has stopped at the local bus stop to pick up kids.

Even with busses clearly marked, people still pass the stopped buses at school bus stops.

Monica Douglas began filming the bus stop and captured several offenders, who were then ticketed. She also yelled at the passing drivers as they did the bus stop offense.

Even though the bus stop is at a busy, multi-lane traffic area, busses are still required to stop. The school district has taken a look at moving the bus stop but believes that that particular place is the best place for the bus to stop to pick up school kids in that area.

As a result of Monica Douglas filming the law-breakers and sharing the video, some local police officers decided to catch some wrong-doers in action. The officers blocked the road down the street from the bus stop and ticketed every driver who passed the bus unlawfully.

A statement from the Pasco Sheriff’s office posted that officers will continue to monitor the area of the bus stop on US 19 for people who don’t stop at the occupied bus stop.

Police will continue to monitor and ticket offenders. Please reach out to your friends with this story to warn them about the dangers of driving past a stopped school bus.
