Actor Keanu Reeves is one of Hollywood’s finest men – and he’s also one of Hollywood’s nicest. On top of having a reputation for being so kind, Reeves is also a bonafide action star whose filmography speaks for itself. Some of his most well-known works include the “John Wick” and “The Matrix” franchises, as well as plenty of films in a variety of genres, such as romantic comedies, dramas and thrillers.

There are plenty of examples out there that show just why Reeves is considered such a nice guy. From the time that he gave up his seat on the subway for a stranger and the various moments he’s shared with homeless people on the streets, listening to their stories, to the many donations he’s given to charities, Reeves is the epitome of a stand-up citizen. Reeves has also taken the time to show his cast and crew members on the films he’s been a part of just how much they mean to him and how much he respects them and their time. It’s no wonder then that he’s been dubbed the “Internet’s boyfriend” and why you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who isn’t on board with the “Keanussance.”

Reeves has been through plenty of hardships in his life but has continuously bounced back and come back stronger than ever. He also makes the time to appreciate those closest to him in his life. This includes two of his sisters – Kim and Karina. While he may not have had the most stable or perfect childhood, he never takes for granted the connection he has with his beloved sisters and takes the time to be with them through thick and thin.

Reeves was born on Sept. 2, 1964, in Beirut, Lebanon. From a young age, his father wasn’t a big part of his life, leaving the family during Reeves’ early childhood. According to Snopes, Reeves’ dad, Hawaiian Samuel Reeves, was still part of his life until he was 13, but then the star didn’t hear from him for about ten years. His British-born mother, Patricia Taylor, was hardly one to settle down in one place for very long. The production designer moved her children away from their father in Hawaii as his crippling drug addiction became too much to handle, something he himself admitted in 2001:

“Keanu said my life was ‘tragic’ and, oh boy, does that hurt. Sad, yeah? I never figured things would end up this way. But he’ll always be my boy.”

After Hawaii, Reeves’s family moved to Australia, then New York after Taylor remarried. They soon settled in Toronto, Canada, for the better part of Reeves’s teen life. His mother remarried three times, giving Reeves three stepfathers in the process.

Reeves’s only biological sister is Kim Reeves, who is two years older than him. She recalled their childhood as one filled with upheaval. “How we lived our lives depended on the man of the moment,” Kim told People in 1995. “We never had anyone to play with us, to watch me riding horses or Keanu playing hockey… You can’t miss what you never had.” Even from a young age, Kim described her brother's spirit as “content.”

Kim went on to pursue acting in Hollywood in much the same way her charismatic younger brother did, making her feature film debut in “Samurai Vampire Bikers from Hell.” However, just as the movie was being released, tragedy struck.

Kim was diagnosed with leukemia in 1991 and battled the disease for years. However, she didn’t do it alone.

“When she was in the hospital, he was there with her all the time, sitting at her bedside, holding her hand,” a friend said of Reeves. Kim’s thoughtful brother never forgot where his loyalties lay and became her primary carer.

“She was always there for me, you know. I will always be here for her,” he explained.

Despite being propelled into superstardom with the immense success of “The Matrix,” shooting of the sequels was delayed before Kim finally went into remission. Reeves has since used his earnings to help others battling cancer, saying in 2009:

“I have a private foundation that’s been running for five or six years, and it helps aid a couple of children’s hospitals and cancer research. I don’t like to attach my name to it, I just let the foundation do what it does.”

Reeves is also close to his stepsister Karina Miller, who has also made her mark in Hollywood. In 2019, the “Speed” star stepped out on the red carpet with her for the premiere of her film “Semper Fi.” Reeves gushed about Miller, saying, “It’s really awesome to be here and be invited. It’s a great accomplishment, it’s a wonderful film.” Miller returned the favor, saying her brother was never anything less than encouraging of her.

“He’s always been so supportive and so protective of me doing my own thing. I always really appreciate that.”

It appears kindness has always been in Reeves’s nature, as Kim once described her brother as such:

“My brother is my prince. He listens to every word, to every comma after every word, that you are saying.”
