Nursing Dog With Six Newborn Puppies Discovered Chained To A Gate

It is terrible enough to abandon a pet. What is even worse is leaving an animal to die by chaining it up and trapping it.

Yet that is exactly what happened in Co. Roscommon in Ireland. An image of a dog chained to a fence while nursing a litter of six puppies has gone viral, making animal lovers all over the world sick with disgust.

Fortunately for the mama dog and her babies, a good samaritan spotted the trapped dog and reported the incident to the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA), as reported by the Irish Mirror.

Rescuers from ISPCA have stated that Emmy Lou was lucky to be found when she was. The poor dog was left with no water, food, or shelter. And on top of all of that, she had to care for her new puppies all alone. Recent rainfall and cool temperatures could have turned this into a tragedy in a hurry.

Although it is a law to microchip your dog in Ireland, Emmy Lou did not have one. Because of this, ISPCA was not able to track down her owners. While the new puppies were found cold and hungry, they were still in good health. ISPCA named the sweet pups Billy Ray, Dixie, Dolly, Dotty, June, and Patsy. All six will remain at the shelter until they are old enough to be rehomed at the beginning of the year.

Does the photo that has angered so many animal enthusiasts make you angry as well? Be sure to spread the message to others that this is definitely not okay.
