Nurses Erupt In Joyful Laughter When Mom Tells Them What She Wants To Name Her Twins

While welcoming children into the world is always a miraculous and joyful occasion, it can also spiral quickly into stressful situations when the unexpected occurs.

For Lauren Meehan of Denver, Colorado, her delight at the fact she was due to give birth to twin baby girls was temporarily overshadowed by their decision to enter the world a little bit early in October 2022. However, Meehan knew she was in good hands at the Rose Medical Center as she had given birth to her first child there two years earlier.

“This time around, we had another surprise when we found out we were having twin girls,” Meehan said in a statement released by the center, as reported by Today. But when the buns in the oven “decided to make an early and quick arrival in the middle of the night,” Meehan said she had to go through the delivery process in an operating room.

“Because of the twins, we had to deliver in the OR with two teams of doctors and nurses,” Meehan said, adding just how “excellent” she found the center’s staff. “(My doctor) was amazing during all my prenatal care and the birth of these babies!” Meehan added.

While the dynamic situation unfolded, Meehan said the staff attending to her had near-perfect bedside manner and did what they could to help her stay calm and composed. She said one of the ways they tried to do this was by keeping her involved in a conversation, which quickly turned to a delightful subject – baby names. That was when she realized how special it was that not only was she giving birth to twins but that she was in that operating room with the exact members of staff at that exact time.

As Meehan’s delivery process continued, the situation could have quickly descended into panic were it not for the grace of the staff. "Our first baby decided she wanted to come as quickly as possible, so the entire group had to move fast," Meehan said in the statement. "While I knew why everyone had to move quickly, I always had a nurse by my side explaining everything and holding my hand. They took turns being with me as they all knew this can be an overhead experience."

To keep Meehan’s spirits up as she was about to deliver her pair of twins, the staff decided to ask her whether she had any names in mind for the little bundles of joy.

"As we were about to deliver, the team asked me if we had names picked out," Meehan, who welcomed the twins in October 2022, said. The response from the team was an unexpected surprise for Meehan.

“We told the room that we loved the names Emma and Julia,” she said. “The room all broke out in laughter as the two nurses that would be taking care of my babies were both named Emma and Julia!”

Meehan said the coincidence was a welcome break from the stresses of delivery.

“At that moment, in all the chaos, we were able to stop for a second and enjoy that moment knowing that those names were meant to be," Meehan said.

“Those two nurses will always be special to us and the entire team that took care of us that day (will) hold a special place in our hearts,” she said, as she added she also had a happy memory to share with her twins in the future. "It will be a funny story to tell our girls!"
