Although having a baby is a rewarding process for all parents, some couples seem to have an easier time than others. Losing a child before or shortly after birth is one of the most difficult losses for a parent to handle. Even the thought of losing a young child can be traumatic.

Like many other young couples, Josh and Katie Butler are excited to start their family. When the couple learned about Katie's pregnancy, they were ecstatic. They eagerly started to plan their future as a family. Tragically, Katie was given some bad news when she reached 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Although the doctors couldn't provide a concrete diagnosis, they noticed many health issues with her baby.

Despite all of these challenges, Katie was determined to have a successful pregnancy. Even though the couple expected a difficult process, they didn't know what to expect at the end. For the following few months, Katie had to visit the hospital on a weekly basis so doctors could monitor the health and growth of the baby.

After a successful pregnancy and delivery, baby Dewey was brought into the world. Having monitored his condition for months, the doctors knew how to treat Dewey right away. The infant was taken to the Monroe Carell Jr Children's Hospital in Nashville. Dewey spent several of his first weeks in the NICU. When Dewey was 132-days-old, doctors needed to fit a feeding tube for the infant due to an upcoming surgery.

Tragically, Dewey's tiny heart couldn't handle the procedure. Despite their horrific loss, Katie and Josh weren't going to leave the hospital without a child. A nurse requested that the couple join her on the fifth floor. The nurse introduced a baby who was in desperate need of a mother and father.

Brax was the name of the baby boy had been born at 27 weeks. The 11-month-old child had never seen life outside the hospital. Brax had pulmonary hypertension, chronic respiratory failure, and trach-vent dependency. However, this little fighter's health was improving.

Katie had been praying for another baby after tasting what motherhood was like for the first time. As soon as the couple learned about Brax, they knew that adopting the child was the right option. It was clear that God had steered the couple in this direction. With the help of the thoughtful nurse, Katie and Josh finally had their baby.
