Hospice patients face a challenging moment when they go into the hospital and know they are never going home again. The nurses who care for these patients try their best to help these patients and their families deal with the situation.

Brenda has been a nurse for many years. She uses a special weapon to help her patients. This weapon was a secret up until recent days.

This nurse from Kalamazoo had a patient by the name of Robert Olson. He came into the hospital complaining of breathing problems. The family knows that there was something wrong with this hardworking 85-year-old.

Robert's daughter, Roberta Lytle, didn't think he was coming home, according to CBS News.

Robert had been under hospice care because he couldn't receive a pacemaker due to his age. After coming into the hospital, he came under the care of Nurse Brenda.

Father and daughter had been watching a TV show about singer Pat Boone when the nurse came into the room. Robert told her, in a breathless voice, that he didn't care for Mr. Boone, but liked one song that Pat's daughter, Debbie, sang.

Nurse Brenda surprised her patient with a magnificent voice. She started singing his favorite song, "You Light Up My Life."

And Robert surprised the nurse and his daughter by joining in the singing. He didn't let his breathlessness stop him.

Now, Brenda wasn't sure of all the lyrics of the song. She let Robert know that she would get a copy and come in the next day to sing it for home. Her patient and his daughter couldn't believe the nurse's compassion.

At Nurse Brenda's promise, Robert's eyes lit up. He had the biggest grin on his face. The act of singing his favorite song just lit him up inside and out. Brenda's promise to come back the next day touched him deeply.

Roberta caught the nurse and her dad singing "You Light Up My Life" on video. Though the family didn't know if Robert would ever leave that hospital room, he had the energy to sing the song in duet with Nurse Brenda.

A week later, Robert headed home.

Brenda fessed up to singing to her patients ever since she became a nurse 14 years ago. It was the first time she had been caught on video though. She's proud to be part of a team that goes beyond for their patients.

This nurse definitely brought light to her patient's life. What do you think of Brenda's gift? Is it something someone else in your life would appreciate? Pass it along to your friends and family to brighten their days.
