Erica Rucks is a pediatric oncology nurse who has spent her life helping children with cancer.

Sadly, when she was only 40, she was told she had incurable metastatic breast cancer. The disease had spread to her bones, and it is only a matter of time.

Determined to help others for as long as possible

The mother of three was undaunted by the diagnosis and has declared she will continue to care for children who have cancer for as long as she can. She works in the oncology ward at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital in Minneapolis.

She said to Metro"That's how I want to be remembered. I touched lives."

This is not Rucks' first experience with a cancer diagnosis. She was diagnosed with Hopkin's lymphoma when she was 15 and was cured. However, during treatment, she was given chemotherapy and twelve rounds of radiation to her chest. The doctors believe this heavy radiation exposure triggered her early-onset breast cancer.

Rucks says she remains positive and isn't focusing on the future and "what ifs." Her coworkers support her in every way and have nominated her for a wish to be granted by the Have a Nice Day Foundation.
