Rain Dove is a non-binary model who is famous not only for their modeling but also for their brilliant responses on Twitter to hateful comments about their refusal to gender-conform.

One recent instagram exchange in particular attracted people's attention when Rain managed to deflect a mother's anger and turn the exchange into a teaching moment. The mother angrily accused Rain of making her child mentally ill. She was angry because what she thought of as her daughter wanted a chest binder. Rain responded cheerfully to the accusation of causing mental illness in the child and influencing the child to want to be a boy.

Rain asked "How are you feeling about it? Does it feel a bit heavy?" and went on to explain that many people, even those who identify as female or non-gender, wear chest binders. The mother initially responded angrily that her daughter hated parts of her body because "of perverts like you."

Rain ignored the insult and responded by saying the mother must love her very much if she is reaching out to me about this issue. After further contentious exchanges, Rain eventually managed to convince the mother to get her child a binder. Her suggestion to get the child a good binder was based on evidence that children who want to bind will find a way, and a binder is a much safer alternative than any of the DIY methods children have turned to, some of which have been known to cause broken ribs, skin issues, and even lung deformations.

Rain emphasized that the desire to wear a binder did not mean the child wanted to be a boy. It could be anything, including simply feeling awkward about recently developing breasts. The mother finally seemed to accept the truth and said "I want her alive and happy, I guess I just want her to love herself she's beautiful."

She agreed to get her child a binder and Rain congratulated her on creating such a trusting and stable relationship with her child that the child felt comfortable enough to openly ask for a binder. It was a wonderful, educational exchange.

The mother then started to ask Rain questions about binders. Rain responded to her questions and even suggested a website to consult for a well-designed binder. The mother ended the exchange by asking Rain if she could ask them additional questions in the future. Rain responded very positively with a yes, anytime.
