Love is powerful. It doesn’t matter if it comes from your family or is given by complete strangers. For all the criticism that social media receives, it has also been an amazing platform that has let people touch lives. Interested in a great example of this? Let us introduce Alexis Barnes. She’s a little girl from Texas afflicted with Alopecia.

Alexis was looking forward to her birthday party. She had even invited 17 friends to celebrate with her. Unfortunately, not a single one of those invitees were able to make it. This was a heartbreaking story until a group of strangers decided to give Alexis a do-over. Alopecia is a condition in which a person loses hair all over their bodies. It can be hard on a child. But Alexis zest for life never wavered. She’s quick with a smile and a great friend to many other kids that attend her school and even play alongside her at the local roller rink.

Alexis was not alone on her birthday. She had her friends. But, of course, that’s not quite the same for a kid who’s expecting a bunch of her friends from school to come over and have fun. Her mom, saddened and frustrated, posted about her ordeal on Facebook.

One person in particular, a father of two, took note and took action. He was even able to convince a local restaurant to host the do-over birthday party at no charge. He also invited a lot of people. More than a thousand, in fact. Alexis had a blast. Perhaps her mom was even more thrilled. The party consisted of an inflatable slide, a snow pit and even a massive toy collection. There was even a petting zoo with exotic animals.

It was a bash that Alexis, her mom and probably everyone in attendance is going to remember forever. And it’s all thanks to a bunch of strangers—and, of course, a bunch of eager kids. The world can seem like such a big, unfriendly and depressing place at times! But its stories like this that make us feel better not only about ourselves but the world at large. There is a better tomorrow, and the good people in this world are going to make it happen.
