Nicole Kidman Reveals Her Teenage Daughters Sunday & Faith ‘Love’ Getting In Touch With Their Australian Roots

Nicole Kidman has been one of the darlings of Hollywood since she appeared in countless films over the years. But some of her fans also know her for being an amazing mom to all of her children, including from her previous marriage to Tom Cruise, and her current husband, Keith Urban.

In 1990, actors Cruise and Kidman got married after meeting on the set of one of their films. Unfortunately, the marriage didn't last, with the couple breaking things off in 2001. But before their divorce, they adopted two children together. One was their daughter, Isabella Jane, while the other was their son Connor Anthony.

Although the two children have been in the public eye ever since they were adopted by their famous parents, they live a pretty private life in the 2020s as their daughter reportedly got married in 2015 and rarely shares photos of herself on her Instagram account, but instead, she posts some of her artworks.

Later in life, the Kidman found love with her second husband, Urban, as they tied the knot in a ceremony at St. Patrick’s Estate in Sydney, Australia, in 2006. It’s only fitting that they got married Down Under as both of them are Australian.

According to People Magazine, the couple welcomed their first child named Sunday Rose Kidman Urban in 2008. Their spokesman at the time, Paul Freundlich, revealed that the baby girl, who was born in Nashville, Tennessee, and her mom were “very well.”

On the other hand, their second child, Faith Margaret Kidman Urban, was born in 2010 via surrogate at The Women’s Hospital at Centennial in Nashville.

Initially, Kidman wanted to have a big family as she told Marie Claire Australia in a 2021 interview that she planned to have 10 children. Unfortunately, the actress struggled with fertility issues, even during her marriage with Cruise.

She recalled in a 2007 interview with Vanity Fair, as reported by People Magazine, that she wanted to have babies after she tied the knot with the actor. Unfortunately, they lost a baby “early on,” and it was a traumatic experience for her. It was also the same time they decided to adopt Bella.

Since her first two kids were already grown up, Kidman's main focus in the late 2010s and the early 2020s was her daughters with Urban. In an interview with Vanity Fair published in May 2019, the actress said she had a different take on parenting as she didn’t want her daughters, aged 10 and 8 at the time, to use phones.

“They don’t have a phone and I don’t allow them to have an Instagram … I try to keep some sort of boundaries,” she said.

Regarding her two kids’ faith, Kidman said she and her family go to church more often, and the reason why she was so religious was because of her “very Catholic grandmother.”

“I was raised praying, so that had a massive impact," she explained.

However, the actress experienced a parenting hurdle when the COVID-19 pandemic came. In an interview with Glamour UK, the actress said her two daughters had a hard time social distancing as both of them worked through their emotions.

"One of the hardest things is just watching them pine and yearn for their friends,” she said.

In 2023, Kidman promoted her Paramount+ Original series “Special Ops: Lioness” together with her co-star, Zoë Saldaña. Both actresses sat down for an interview with Studio 10’s Angela Bishop.

Toward the end of the conversation, the famed host, who hails from Australia, asked Kidman if she had any plans on coming home to the country “anytime soon.” She answered, “just family,” then revealed that she, Urban and their two daughters “jump in and out quite a bit sometimes” in Australia without the public knowing. It appears that her two children also loved getting in touch with their roots as their mom said, “the girls love it too, so yeah we’re very much always back and forth.”

Kidman later noted that Australia had been a big part of their family members’ lives and she loved going in and out of the country to visit her mom, her sister, nieces and nephews, and mostly their relatives.

Although both Kidman and Urban's daughters were born in Nashville, the kids always had Australian blood in them. In a 2016 interview, the actress said both her children are “Nashvillians,” but they also have “some Aussie” which she considered an “unusual mix.” At the time, Kidman said Sunday adopted a Southern accent mixed with her parents’ Australian lingo.

She also said during TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in the World 2018 interview that one of her daughters seems to want to follow in her footsteps in Hollywood.

“I’m raising a little girl that’s showing an interest in directing right now,” she said.
