As wildfires in Australia have blazed through 11 million acres and caused more than 17 deaths, Australian-American actress Nicole Kidman and Australia-raised singer Keith Urban have pledged $500,000 to an Australian fire relief service.
As of Christmas Day, there were 2,000 firefighters combating the bushfires, according to People, with more arriving from other countries to assist. While the singer and actress's house is not actually on fire, it is considered under threat.
Under such circumstances, you might expect the pair to be more concerned with their own property than anything else, but in fact, they have contributed $500,000 to Rural Fire Service. Still, Kidman was shaken and spoke out about being distracted by the events in Australia while attending the Gold Meets Golden Event in Beverly Hills.

“Our family’s support, thoughts, and prayers are with everyone affected by the fires all over Australia. We are donating $500,000 to the Rural Fire Services who are all doing and giving so much right now,” Kidman posted on her Instagram.
Urban, born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, echoed the statement on his Instagram.
Thankfully, they are not alone. Other celebrities as wide-ranging as Pink and Celeste Barber are also donating to those affected by the fires, having killed more than 17 people and an estimated half a billion animals since September, reports People.
There are reported to still be over 130 fires burning. It has gotten so bad that Australia's military has deployed ships and aircraft to help people in need.
What do you think of Kidman and Urban's donation in the face of such a tragedy? Do you think more celebrities should donate to truly immediate needs, like this one?
