It's been over 20 years since Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise divorced, and their lives have certainly changed a lot since then. However, many fans of the stars are still intrigued by their relationship and everything that happened during their 11 years together as a couple.
The pair first met in late 1989 prior to filming "Days of Thunder." Both Kidman and Cruise starred in the film together and even played love interests before taking their romance off-screen. They happily tied the knot on Dec. 24, 1990.
Kidman and Cruise's relationship was the talk of the town and easily garnered plenty of media attention. The two actors were together for more than a decade when they painfully announced that they were splitting up. It came as a shock to the world, and it left Kidman reeling with her heartbroken feelings.
Although the pair didn't last together, they both went on to marry other people. Kidman has been happily married to country singer Keith Urban since June 2006. Cruise's relationship history, unfortunately, has had a few more bumps in the road, as his marriage to Katie Holmes lasted from 2006 until 2012, leading to yet another public divorce.
While Kidman and Cruise were still married, they made the decision to become parents and adopted two children: Isabella, who was born in 1992, and Connor, who was born in 1995. Kidman has since welcomed two biological children with Urban. However, she felt it was her purpose to adopt Isabella and Connor and has since shared more about her motherhood journey.

Becoming A Mother
Born on June 20, 1967, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Kidman is an Australian actress and producer. She has starred in a number of films in various film genres, including the movie-musical "Moulin Rouge!" in 2001 and the psychological horror film "The Others" in 2001. Some of her more recent works include the 2020 musical comedy film "The Prom" and the 2021 miniseries "Nine Perfect Strangers," which she both starred in and produced.
Although Kidman now has two biological children with her current husband Urban, she didn't necessarily feel like it was the right decision during her marriage with Cruise. According to USA Today, one of the reasons why the couple did not have biological children together was because Kidman had an ectopic pregnancy early in her marriage to Cruise.
"From the minute Tom and I were married, I wanted to have babies," Kidman explained. "And we lost a baby early on, so that was really very traumatic." Fortunately, the couple had other options and chose to adopt – something that has since changed their lives for the better.
Connor was born on Jan. 17, 1995, in Florida. He was adopted by his parents not long after his birth and joined their family of three, as they had adopted Isabella a couple of years earlier. She was born on Dec. 22, 1992. As pivotal figures in the entertainment industry, Kidman and Cruise were used to being in the spotlight but did their best to keep their kids out of it and give them a relatively normal upbringing.

Protecting Her Children
Connor stayed in the entertainment world for a while in terms of his career, but ultimately it wasn't for him. In 2008, at the age of 13, he tried acting when he played a younger version of Will Smith in the film "Seven Pounds." He followed that up with a role in "Red Dawn" in 2012, but since then, he hasn't acted in anything else. Around that time, during his late teenage years, he pivoted to a career in the music industry.
Isabella – better known as Bella – has also found success on her own terms. She's gotten married, launched an Instagram account, and delighted fans all over the world with her colorful artwork. Her Instagram has racked up over 38,000 followers, although Bella prefers to keep her life pretty private.
In a rare public moment, Connor spoke to the media about his relationship with his mother in 2014. According to Yahoo, he said:
"I love my mom. I don't care what people say. I know that me and mom are solid. I love her a lot. My family means everything. Yeah, I love my music, but the family comes before everything else."
Kidman has also spoken up about how much her children mean to her. Speaking with WHO in 2019, she said, "I'm very private about (them)." She continued, "I have to protect those relationships, I know 150% that I would give up my life for my children because it's what my purpose is. They are adults. They are able to make their own decisions."
