Nicole Kidman Confessed That She & Keith Urban Dropped Out Of High School And Never Graduated

Actress Nicole Kidman is one of Hollywood's premier actors working today. She got her start in her native Australia in the 1980s, and her talent and gorgeous looks quickly brought her success — by the early '90s, she'd received worldwide attention and had already made an impression in Hollywood.

Ever since, she's continued to stay at the top and has earned herself a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, an Academy Award and multiple other honors. These days she's still acting in projects that draw acclaim, including "Nine Perfect Strangers" and "Being the Ricardos," for which she won a Golden Globe Award.

Outside of her incredibly busy career, Kidman has also found success in her personal life too. Married to fellow Australian and country music star Keith Urban, the couple has been one of Hollywood's sweetest romances ever since they met in 2005 at the G'Day USA event. They started dating six months later before they took a trip down the aisle in 2006 in Sydney, Australia. Together, they have two daughters, 13-year-old Sunday Rose and 11-year-old Faith Margaret.

But despite her incredibly successful career, fans might be surprised to learn that Kidman never actually graduated from high school. In fact, neither did Urban! Kidman revealed as much in a recent radio interview with Sydney's KIIS FM. She opened up to host Kyle Sandilands after he also revealed he didn't finish high school. Kidman did, however, say it was "not a good promotion," which suggested that she doesn't condone leaving high school early. Let's take a look.

During her appearance on the radio show hosted by Sandilands, the discussion moved to Kidman's recent role on "Being the Ricardos," which was written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, of "The West Wing" fame. Sandilands then said that the moment he knew he didn't have what it takes to be an actor is when he witnessed the lengthy dialogue that was featured on "The West Wing." In reference to memorizing lines, Sandilands said:

"I haven't got what it takes to be an actor. I don't have the brains, I didn't even finish year 10, I can't intake all that rubbish."

This prompted Kidman to reveal that she also didn't finish high school. She said:

"I didn't finish Year 11 and I somehow got there, are we allowed to say that?"

The two joked that they didn't recommend not finishing high school, as they admitted they "got through on a wing and a prayer." Kidman then revealed that Urban also didn't finish high school. She said:

"I don't think Keith finished Year 10 either. But we shouldn't be putting that out there, it's not a good promotion."

The actress then described her first job, which incidentally wasn't so far removed from acting. Kidman worked as an usherette, during which she'd show people to their seats in a theater. She described the job as a "good gig" and added:

"You got a bit of cash and you were in the theater."

It must have been incredibly inspiring for Kidman to work in the theater, and before too long she herself was up on the stage.

Kidman grew up in Sydney and attended North Sydney Girls' High School before she dropped out. While there she met fellow Australian actress Naomi Watts, but it wasn't until they both worked on the 1991 film "Flirting" that their friendship became as close as it is today.

In a 2017 interview with People magazine, Watts opened up about how close they are. She said:

"We've gone through a lot together over a significant amount of time. That history binds you."

As the two Australians made it in Hollywood, they carried their friendship with them and are still incredibly close. Watts added in the same interview:

"We have a strong respect and love for one another. If you hang out with us, you'll have fun. I'll promise you that."

Meanwhile, in 2015, when Kidman honored Watts at the Women in Film Crystal and Lucy Awards, she spoke of their special bond to People. She said:

“We’ve known each other since we were teenagers. And actually, when I was thinking about it, I was like, it’s like my sister giving me this award tonight ... And we’re like sisters. I mean, we’ve known each other for so long, through so many things. And this is the kind of the sidebar of our life. Really, our life is all the personal stuff.”

It's incredibly moving to witness two Hollywood stars speak about their close friendship and how far they go back. Despite everything that happened in their lives, they were always there for one another, and that's a very special kind of friendship.
