Nicole Kidman And Lenny Kravitz ‘Weren’t Ready’ To Make Their Relationship Last

Born on June 20, 1967, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Nicole Kidman is an Australian actress and producer. She has starred in a number of films in various film genres, including the movie-musical "Moulin Rouge!" in 2001 and the psychological horror film "The Others," also in 2001. Some of her more recent works include the 2020 musical comedy film "The Prom" and the 2021 miniseries "Nine Perfect Strangers," which she both starred in and produced.

When you think about Kidman’s relationship history, most people would most likely remember her 11-year marriage to fellow actor Tom Cruise and her current marriage to country music star Keith Urban, with whom she has been married since 2006. Kidman and Cruise first met in late 1989 prior to filming “Days of Thunder” together and went on to get married and adopt two children. It came as a shock to the world when the couple painfully announced their separation.

Fortunately, Kidman is now happily married to Urban, and she even credits her husband for helping her gain confidence in herself. Before marrying the country singer, Kidman was rather introverted and shy but has since come out of her shell more. The couple is also very supportive of one another and their respective careers.

However, Kidman has dated other high-profile celebrities, including Lenny Kravitz. In fact, the two were once even engaged for a brief period of time before Kidman settled down with Urban. While many people are familiar with Kidman’s marital history, not everyone is as familiar with her past relationship with Lenny. He is a man of many musical talents, working as a singer, songwriter, record producer and instrumentalist. On top of that, he is also an actor. Some of his hits include “It Ain’t Over ‘til It’s Over,” “Are You Gonna Go My Way” and “American Woman.”

Lenny's most popular relationship was his marriage to actress Lisa Bonet. The two were close friends for a few years prior to starting their relationship in 1985. They eloped to Las Vegas in Nov. 1987 on Bonet’s 20th birthday and welcomed a daughter, Zoë Kravitz, in Dec. 1988. However, Lenny and Bonet amicably divorced in 1993.

Afterward, Lenny went on to date a few models including Vanessa Paradis and Adriana Lima. He was even engaged to the latter, but they called it off in April 2003. However, Lenny got engaged again that very same year — this time to Kidman. 

According to PEOPLE, Kidman and Lenny were spotted at several high-profile events together in Sept. 2003, sparking conversations that they were romantically linked. At the time, Kidman’s spokeswoman Leslee Dart had said: “They’re very close. He’s very important to her.”

Both Kidman and Lenny were reported to be single at the time of their meeting. Lenny had said, “I’m not so much looking for the one as waiting for the one.” Kidman also longed for a companion, having said, “I want someone who says, ‘I will stand by you and be there for you, and your life is just as important to me as mine.'”

However, Lenny and Kidman weren’t meant to be, and the pair ended their engagement in 2004.

In 2007, Kidman reflected on her past relationship with Lenny during an interview with Vanity Fair. “It just wasn’t right,” she admitted. “I wasn’t ready. We weren’t ready.”

However, it seems like there is no bad blood between the former couple. Speaking about Lenny with NME in 2017, Kidman said: “I love Lenny. He’s a great guy.”

Kidman also still has somewhat of a connection with Lenny thanks to her profession as an actress. She was cast in the drama series “Big Little Lies” alongside Zoë. The series aired from 2017 to 2019 and featured other notable actresses including Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley and Laura Dern.

According to Us Weekly, Lenny spoke about what it was like to see his daughter working alongside his former fiancée during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” in Dec. 2018. He said:

“I thought it was very interesting that they ended up on the same show and Zoë hadn’t seen Nicole since she was younger. And so it was beautiful that they got to know each other as adults and make this great show together and that’s about it.”

Lenny also opened up more about why his engagement to Kidman didn’t work out. “Some things just don’t work, but the wonderful thing is that we’re all friends,” the musician said.

Although Kidman and Lenny didn’t work out romantically, it’s clear that there is still very friendly love between them. Kidman has been happily married to her current husband, Urban, since 2006, and the two have since welcomed two beautiful daughters together. According to Us Weekly, Lenny appears to still be in the dating scene, as he was most recently linked to Brazilian model Barbara Fialho.
