Nicole Kidman seems to have a perfect life now, but it wasn't always rosy for her. Her first major acting role started with an Australian miniseries titled "Vietnam." Two years later, she landed another role in "Dead Calm" and got noticed by many people, including Tom Cruise. Kidman's initial stint with fame came when she married the renowned actor — who had just gone through his first divorce with Mimi Rogers — at 23 and became popularly known as Mrs. Tom Cruise.
The actress always wanted to have babies, so she was devastated when she had an ectopic pregnancy at the start of her marriage. She also suffered a miscarriage toward the end of her marriage to the actor and learned that she couldn't have children.
Nevertheless, Kidman continued her marriage to Cruise, which she felt was perfect. Her career also picked up during her first marriage, starting with "To Die For" and "The Portrait of a Lady." A short while after that, she got a role in "Eyes Wide Shut," which she appeared in alongside her then-husband.
Kidman continued to live in a bubble of happiness with Cruise, and their adopted children, Isabella and Connor, but the bliss would soon shatter. Two months after their 10th wedding anniversary, Cruise asked to split and filed for divorce soon after, citing work-related problems. Kidman was crushed. The couple divorced in 2001, and the actress carried her pain until she met and married Keith Urban. She constantly attributed her healing to him.
On June 25, 2023, Kidman celebrated her 17th wedding anniversary with Urban with a photo she posted on Instagram. Continue reading to find out what she said.
Kidman's divorce from Cruise was tough on her. She told DUJOUR:
"It took me a very long time to heal. It was a shock to my system."
However, she buried herself in her work and continued to receive critical acclaim for her outstanding performances. Kidman appeared in "The Hours" around this time as the suicidal Virginia Woolf and won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for her impressive performance. Despite Kidman's success, she felt something was missing.
"I realized I didn’t want to be alone. I wanted to fall in love again, but I wasn’t sure I could," she told DUJOUR.
In 2005, she met musician Urban at an event for Australians in Los Angeles and was instantly smitten. However, it took a while for the singer to reach out. Kidman and Urban tied the knot in June 2006, and the actress got a huge surprise soon after that. At 40, she became pregnant with their first child, and in July 2008, they welcomed their daughter, Sunday Rose.
"It took me so long to have a child. I feel enormous gratitude. Sunday has healed an enormous amount in me," she said after the birth.
The couple had another daughter, Faith Margaret, in 2011 through surrogacy. For Nicole, her life and marriage to Urban couldn't be more perfect. The duo has been outspoken about supporting each other. And for the actress, having an artistic husband helps ease some of the pressure from work.
"I've got a good husband who is really, really good to talk to. He's artistic, so he gets it. I'm not coming home to someone who just doesn’t understand. And he’s a good buffer," she told Tatler in 2018.
Kidman and Urban's love continues to blossom 17 years after they first said "I do" to each other. The mom of four celebrated their long union on Instagram on June 25, 2023, with a black and white photo of them hugging with their faces close to each other.
"Happy Anniversary my Love," she captioned the sweet snap.
The photo quickly garnered lots of likes and comments from fans who wished the couple a happy time together.
"Two very lucky people to of found each other. You are loved by so many💗," a fan commented on the media personality's page. A second follower expressed, "So happy that you 2 found each other. 😍😍😍."
A third fan wished that they would stay together forever.
"Happy anniversary you lil love birds, wishing you a lifetime of love and happiness," they wrote.
Days before their anniversary, Kidman also celebrated her spouse on June 18, 2023, for Father's Day with a photo of him on a tiny tricycle with one of their kids on Instagram.
"Happy Father’s Day to the coolest dad there is! You are so loved by all of us! Your girls❤️," she captioned the snap.
Many of the family's fans also wished the musician Happy Father's Day, while some shared how much they love him. Another fan thought he was cool.
"Def the coolest dad - just don't tell. John," they wrote.
For the "Moulin Rouge" star, she lives a fulfilled life. Asked if her life contained everything now, she answered:
"Oh, yes! And it’s my life. Before, I was running away from life. Now I embrace it. You never know how long you have. So I cherish every minute."
The star even revealed she looks after herself so she can be around for her kids. She told Tatler:

Kidman and Urban support each other’s careers, including attending award nights and movie premieres and going on tour together. Per their custom, they attended the 2023 CMA Awards and showed up on the red carpet in their head-turning outfits on Nov. 9, 2023.
Kidman wore a plunging black dress with a cutout in the midriff and matched it with black Jimmy Choo stiletto heels and a black purse. Her accessories were a silver choker, silver bracelet, and hoop earrings. Urban, on the other hand, Urban wore a dark green shirt opened up at the top, black pants, and Balenciaga square-toed boots.
Kidman and Keith turned their CMA outing into a date night, and everyone couldn’t help but notice how lovey-dovey they seemed. The outing came a few months after Kidman and her spouse marked their 17th anniversary on June 25, 2023.
Per People, Kidman celebrated the occasion by posting a black-and-white photo of herself and Urban leaning into each other as Kidman cupped Urban’s face in the pic.
“Happy Anniversary my Love,” she captioned the shot.
That same month, Urban celebrated Kidman’s birthday with a photo of the actress from behind.
“To my gorgeous, sexy, adventurous, curious, nature loving, owl spotting, artist, wife: happy birthday baby !!!!!! xxxxxx,” Urban captioned the post.
The couple also had a fun time some months before at Urban’s second Las Vegas residency, where the singer kicked off his show with a throwback to his and Kidman’s wedding. He played some footage from their big day while performing 2010's "Without You."
“I wanted to do it in a very organic way and find the right song,” he told People then. “It was really more about choosing to do that song, ‘Without You,’ and how that felt like the right time for that.”
