Nick Clooney Knew That George Clooney & Amal’s ‘Fate Was Sealed’ Immediately After Meeting Them

Actor George Clooney has enjoyed a career as both a screen presence as well as the widely-acknowledged "sexiest man alive." The sixty-one-year-old silver fox has earned the People Magazine title twice but takes the honor lightheartedly. "Brad [Pitt]," the only other actor at the time to be voted in twice, is "going to be upset," George joked in 2006.

Since starring in "ER" and the "Oceans" movies as a younger man, George has been a fan favorite, with talent as well as an easy attitude that never seems to land the actor in hot water like his other Hollywood contemporaries. George, in contrast, was the perpetual, eligible bachelor. This almost unfathomable relationship status puzzled audiences. How could such a seemingly perfect man stay single?

On the neverending question of whether or not he'll settle down, George remarked, "This fascination with my love life is really something." It's not that the actor has never been in a serious relationship. The list of women he's either dated or been rumored to have been with includes Kelly Preston, Camera Diaz, Charlize Theron, Lucy Liu, Renée Zellweger, and countless others. George even married in 1989.

He and actress Talia Balsam tied the knot until divorcing in 1993. On the possibility of another nuptial, George said determinedly, "I keep saying I'll never get married again or have children but people just don't want to believe me."

However, George's resolve to never walk down the aisle seemed to evaporate when he met Amal Alamuddin, a British-Lebanese human rights lawyer, in 2014.

Prior to meeting the woman that would finally sweep him off his feet, George had a never-again stance on marriage. For years, there seemed not even the possibility of a forty-eight-hour Vegas wedding overseen by Elvis for the star. George even commented, "I think it's the most responsible thing you can do, to have kids. It's not something to be taken lightly. I don't have that gene that people have to replicate." However, George also seemed to harbor warmer feelings towards the idea of a one-day, someday family. He continued, saying, "But everything in my life has changed over time." So perhaps there's more malleability in the man than he lets on.

However, when speaking about love, George remained staunchly closed to the idea. He said, “The truth is, I haven’t softened my position on anything, but it’s not something I deal with on a regular basis. Who knows? I’ve been married (in the early ’90s, to actress Talia Balsam). It’s not something I’m looking out for. The truth is, I’m really happy.” Perhaps, George was proof that you don't need another person to live a happy life.

However, that didn't mean he never dreamt of said person. On his dream girl, George mused, “Sense of humor is No. 1...It’s certainly what’s most attractive. It’s not the first thing you notice at 21, but it’s the first thing you notice now." He continued, "You also have to have a sense of humor about my life.” George gestured at the odd business of dating an actor; his partner would have to be able to weather it.

George appeared happier single than coupled-up. Recalling past break-ups, he said, "I have been infinitely more alone in a bad relationship. There's nothing more isolating." The actor wouldn't compromise for just any woman. He only had time/a heart for a black cocker spaniel, Einstein. "I love my life as it is," he said. "I realise[d] whatever worries I have are trivial in comparison to those of many people. I have learned not to be swayed by the attention."

However, one woman would finally sway the confirmed bachelor at a dinner gathering of mutual friends in 2014. Clooney's father, Nick, commented the moment he saw his son meet Amal Alamuddin. The older Clooney recalled, “She introduced herself to us and we talked. She was obviously very charming, gorgeous and so clearly accomplished, but by the time we had supper that night, it was clear there was a kindness to her and an inclusiveness.”

Clearly, he could see the chemistry between the two. “By the end of supper, I started looking over at Nina [his and saying, ‘Look ouuuut, this could be trouble for this young man!'”, he commented. Nick continued, saying, “I really think by the time that first [meeting] was over, his and her fates were sealed, both of them. She was so remarkable and he was so remarkable around her.”

“This young woman meant something to him almost immediately. It was just amazing,” Nick said, warmly. George clearly agreed for he married Alamuddin in Italy in September of that year. The couple continues to be in love even years after their wedding and growing their family.
