Instead of securing a traditional registry with one of the local merchants, Jonathan and Jeananne Wickham asked their friends and family to make monetary donations as wedding gifts that would benefit a local animal shelter.

While that might seem like an odd wedding request to most people, those who know the Wickham's expected nothing less. You see, it turns out that Jonathan and Jeananne have made tremendous efforts in the past to help animals and lend time and treasure in support of the Wayne County Humane Society in Ohio.

In a recent interview with the Daily Record regarding their interesting request of wedding guests, Jonathan said, “We’d been together for seven years and we didn’t have a need for traditional gifts like the mixers and the toasters. We’re really big into animal welfare and rescue so we wanted to take an opportunity to give back to this shelter specifically because I grew up in Wooster.”

For her part, Jeananne added, “We also felt this shelter could use it the best and had the most need for it, so in thinking about how we could do the most good for something like this, this shelter was the one we decided on.”

It does stop there. After receiving numerous monetary wedding gifts, the couple made the decision to use some of those funds in support of the shelter. They purchased 1,200 cans of wet food, 750 pounds of dry food, and enough cleaning supplies, mops included to last the shelter for a long period of time.

The couple also made $2,000 worth of donations to the shelter to be used to handle medical costs for shelter occupants in need. It has been reported those funds were used to pay for the surgeries for two cats. The shelter's gratitude runs deep. According to Director Carrie Andrew per the Daily Record, “This has saved us thousands of dollars in food.”

This story should serve as a reminder that while some people are enjoying good fortune and experiencing happy events, there always a need in the world outside. If someone you know could use a subtle reminder of what's important, this story is the perfect example.
