Newest Trend For Insta-Moms Is Getting A Makeover Before Labor

One would think that a new mother's appearance when in labor is insignificant when bringing a new human being to life.

More and more mothers, however, are following the trend of getting a makeover before labor to ensure a picture-perfect look when bringing their child to the world.

Harper Bazaar claims that according to Cosmetify, a whopping 64% of women aged between 18-31 will get some sort of beauty treatment before going into labor. These treatments include hair removal, manicures, pedicures, and hairstyling.

When the women who took part in the study were quizzed on why they were so conscious of their looks during labor, the majority (31%) said their main reason was that they wanted to look good in photos. Additionally, more than half of the 2,000 participants expressed that this was because of societal pressure on women to look good following the birth of their child.

But Insta-moms are taking the trend a step further. Social media beauty-gurus such as Alexisjayda have recorded themselves applying a full face of makeup when waiting on the arrival of their baby and posted pictures of the event on social media.

Alaha Karimi, a make-up artist who is popular for her flawless make-up artistry on Social media gave herself a full-on make-over in between contractions. In fact, her husband even gave her a hand when the contractions got too strong. Her reasoning, however, is quite different. According to the Inside Edition, Karimi used the make-over as a way to ‘pass the time’ and ‘distract her from the pain of giving birth’.

Although Karimi was criticized for ‘putting her looks before her baby’s health’, she said that labor is more about waiting around for the baby to finally arrive rather than anything else. Additionally, she stated that her doctor told her that doing so was unlikely to cause any harm to the child.

Tegan Woodford, another Instagram make-up artist posted a picture of her making-over her sister-in-law when waiting for the delivery of her child. She wrote:

“ I arrived at 12 pm and her contractions had fully slowed down and she was a bit stressed so I said let me do your makeup. Half way through doing her makeup she was so relaxed that her contractions sped up to every few mins and we then had to race to the hospital - She was 7cm dilated!

I think I’m onto something here... Getting your makeup done whilst in labour relaxes you, speeds up the process and you look good ? “

What do you think of this trend? Do you think these mothers are taking a step too far in order to look good? Or do you think that as long as the baby is healthy, they should be able to do as they please free from judgment?
