Newborn Gibbon Only 1-Day-Old Cradled In Mother's Arms Too Young To Even Be Gendered

Oct 25, 2018 by apost team

It's not every day you get to witness the magic of a mother cuddling her one-day-old baby. This baby looks like its mother, with long arms and a skinny body. There's one major difference: this baby is practically hairless!

It's also only a day (or less) old. It has much to look forward to, but in the meantime, momma's arms are enough for now.

Welcome To Planet Earth!

This baby was born within the grounds of the Chester Zoo in the UK recently. This gave people the chance to observe the tiny little newborn who is so young and small that no one is quite sure of its gender. They also got to see Tilu and Alven, the mother and father, care for their new family member.

Gibbons As Ambassadors

This is a family of rare silvery gibbons who has just added their as-yet-unnamed little one to their family. Gibbon gestation is usually around 210 days and then the family has a funny looking little infant gibbon to love and cuddle. Tilu and Alven are pretty lucky: they're a rare breed of gibbons and their natural habitat has been encroached upon for years, reducing the numbers of their kind to endangered status.

Here at the Chester Zoo, they get to be part of a record-breaking pattern of healthy mammal births at the UK zoo. Let's hope they set the stage for increased human awareness of the critical conditions facing primates and other wildlife throughout the world! Getting to see the sweet video can be part of changing things for the better.
