Although it only seemed like fall ended last week, winter is already making a large impact across the United States. In fact, Albany got hit with over a foot of snowfall last Monday. The winter storm is one of the biggest of the year for the area so far. Fortunately, Albany residents have seen their fair share of snow pile-ups and they know exactly how to handle themselves capably.

A group of three police officers based in New York are already in the holiday giving spirit. The trio works for the Albany Police Department and was recognized officially by the police department following their normal Monday shift. Although their hours were normal, the things they did that day were not normal at all.

The officers shoveled the driveway of a senior citizen who wasn't able to do it herself. The woman is 99-years-old and lives on her own. After the foot of snow fell in Albany, she contacted the Albany Police Center Station for help with snow removal. While it's not the most routine call to the police force, they were happy to oblige the request. According to AccuWeather, the capital of New York was showered with 12 to 18 inches of snowfall. The winter storm started Sunday night and went into Monday morning.

John Schueler, Christopher Stiles, and William Pierce were the three officers who helped out the elderly woman, as reported here at The Belfast Telegraph. They drove to her home and helped to clear the foot of snowfall from her driveway and sidewalk. Sgt. Norah Harrington captured the kind actions of the officers in photos. The images depicted the officers with snowblowers and shovels clearing away the impressive amount of snow.

The department posted on Facebook about the event with a caption that read "When Duty Calls." The comment section of the post was inundated with positive remarks for the three officers involved. One user wrote about how the officers clearly believed in a sense of community, and it's clear why they became officers. The user also encouraged them to stay safe. Another commenter said it was a "beautiful example of public service".

Since being shared publicly, the post has gone viral with over 5,700 shares and over 14,000 likes. It's always nice to see people being recognized for their kindness and sense of duty.
