When Guy Bryant says, "This is my family," he's talking about more than 50 teens and young adults who have lived in his home in Brooklyn, New York. He still keeps in touch with most of them, and calls himself a "forever dad".

For decades, Bryant has worked for New York's Administration for Children Services (ACS). He has seen the great need for good foster homes, especially for older kids. During the past 12 years, he has been foster dad to dozens of young men. His foster-care placements have come through "Rising Ground", a non-profit organization that facilitates matching foster parents with children who are in ACS's care.

Bryant became a foster dad as a single man and he's developed a great rapport with the young men who have been growing up in his home. He sees home as a place to give guidance and prepare kids for their future. It's a place to talk and to make sense of life. Bryant inspires his kids and helps prepare them for a bright future, telling them, "Don't limit yourself. Go for more."

And home is definitely a place where good food is important. In fact, in the words of Guy Bryant, "Food is love". He says he has an open-door policy with food, recognizing that kids often associate food with love. Food is important enough that Bryant has someone come in weekly to do some of the family's cooking.

Believing that home is a place where trust and communication are important, Bryant gives his young men keys to his house. This is their home, and it's a place they can call their own. They get a monthly allowance, and they are challenged to work hard to impact their own futures.

Colleagues and foster kids alike respect "Mr. B", recognizing his impact on the lives of so many young men. Bryant doesn't have any biological children, but he has more than 50 kids who have lived in his home. "This is my family," he says. And, in the words of one his kids, "... Mr. B saves lives."
