New York City Subway Riders Enjoy Spontaneous Backstreet Boys Singalong

Jun 23, 2019 by apost team

Most of us know the song “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boy’s. Some riders that were traveling by subway in New York City got a real treat when everyone began singing this very song.

This wonderful moment was caught by Joe Wertheimer. This attorney was able to capture a video when everything started up on Sunday.

Wertheimer recalls that he had a really bad week. He had attended the funeral of Layleen Cubilette and wasn’t’ feeling it when a man just happened to walk up without a shirt onto the 4 line. And, he wasn’t being quiet either. He was loudly playing a song that was quite a big hit back in 1999.

"But sometimes people and life surprise you and a little magic happens." he wrote in his caption for the epic video.

Rather than rolling his eyes, Wertherimer quickly changed his mind about what was going on and decided to go with the flow.

Wertheimer used to work for President Barack Obama as an associate staff secretary. He admitted that the event was very joyful.

He became very happy when so many people joined in and couldn’t help but start recording. The video has earned more than 1.3 million views and still climbing.

According to HuffPost, After the video had been up a few hours, Wertheimer asked that anyone who enjoyed watching the video to donate money to the Coalition for The Homeless. This is because he feels that not everyone who is on the train is lucky.

“It’s impossible to take the New York subway and not be confronted with our terrible underinvestment in help for the homeless,” Wertheimer told Huffpost. “I think we (I include myself) often ignore people without homes on the subway as we try to get through our daily commutes,”

He feels that it’s impossible to ride the subway in New York without being confronted with people who are homeless. He believes that a lot of people choose to ignore them as they make their commutes to and from their own homes and he includes himself in this belief.

The video has since gone viral on youtube and currently boasts over 2.7 million views. The backstreet boys even retweeted the video, captioning it: "We live for moments like this"
