New Study Shows Magic Mushrooms Can Turn Off The Part Of The Brain That Can Cause Depression

When most people hear about LSD and psilocybin, the main compound in magic mushrooms, their immediate reaction is to associate them with hippy culture and picture people laying around getting high as a way to pass time. However, a recent breakthrough has demonstrated that these psychedelics could play an instrumental role in curing depression by switching off the part of the brain that causes the disorder; effectively making psychedelic drugs the best line of defense for those that battle with depression.

Professor David Nutt, a well-respected neuropsychopharmacologist operating in London’s Imperial College, has been a long-time advocate of the use of psychedelic drugs as a form of medication.

Professor Nutt, alongside his research team, has pioneered a technique referred to as ‘brain imaging’ with the intent of thoroughly mapping out the effects of psychedelic drugs on the brain. His most recent breakthrough was the first-ever brain-imaging study with LSD in which he discovered that these types of drugs have the ability to shut off the part of the brain that causes depression, something that no other medicine has been able to do.

Despite the consistently positive results that stem from psychedelic-drug related research, Professor Nutt has expressed concern regarding the tediousness of the process. Because of the illegal status of these drugs, they are not readily available for research and development, effectively raising the price to about 10 times the amount used for other medicines.

Additionally, the government refuses to provide any funding for this kind of research because of their ban on psychedelics, meaning that the financial burden usually falls on the general public in the form of crowdfunding websites. These fiscal barriers all too often result in crucial research being heavily delayed by many years - years where patients continue battling their disorder with the hope of someday receiving the necessary assistance to help them overcome it.

Every day that passes while the government refuses to lift this ban on such objectively helpful drugs is a day where people who battle with depression continue living in a mental prison – a day where they could potentially give up all sense of hope and choose to commit suicide. At this point, it is the responsibility of the governing to actively set into motion a plan to legalize these psychedelic which have unlimited medicinal potential.

If you or anyone you know could benefit from this breakthrough study, please do not hesitate to spread the word and do your part in changing the public opinion towards being more accepting of this miracle drug.
