New Principal Suspends Almost Half Of Student Body - To Teach A Lesson

A high school principal suspended almost half of the school in response to rampant truancy issues.

Lisa Love stepped into her role as principal of Harrisburg High School early this year and quickly learned of the school's massive problem with absenteeism. Love said the problem was that although the parents were getting the students to school, the kids were not attending classes once they arrived.

Love decided that a little tough love was in order. She knew that in order to fix the issue, she was going to have to rock the boat in a significant way in an effort to get the attention of both the students and the parents. Well, Love's plan certainly worked.

After suspending nearly half of the student population of 1,100, Love came under much criticism. Parents argued that the kids had tests and senior projects to complete. But Love countered back that they should have been in class if they truly cared about this.

School district Superintendent Sybil Knight-Burney has Love's back on the controversy, stating that big changes needed to be made when things clearly are not working. This philosophy is true in school as well as the business world and even life itself. The school hopes that teaching the kids this lesson will encourage them to take their studies more seriously.

Love explains her rationale in this video. Do you agree with her decision? Watch the video and decide for yourself! And then take the time to spread the insight to others so that everyone else can weigh in on whether Love was in the right in her decision.
