New Mom Who Had 6 Miscarriages Tears Up As Surrogate Hands Over Her Baby

For many couples, a child is something precious that completes the family. Such was also the case for Erin Boelhower, frim Illinois, and her husband Matthew, a retired marine. The two had started trying to conceive soon after their wedding. However, their wish for a child went unanswered. Erin suffered several miscarriages and it seemed they would never have a child to call their own, until a friend offered herself as a surrogate back in 2018.

Erin and Matthew tried everything to realize their dream of having a child of their own. They conceived 6 times, but unfortunately Erin miscarried every single time. The couple was hit hard by this, but they never lost hope. Looking for different methods and medical help, the two of them decided to go for IVF. Over the course of three years, Erin underwent roughly 600 injections and several fertility treatments.

All these treatments were for naught. In 2018, at the age of 33 and 34 respectively, Erin and Matthew felt exhausted and devastated. They had tried everything or so it seemed, and nothing had helped. One of Erin's fallopian tubes had to be removed due to an infection and after the surgery, she was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome, which reduces fertility. She posted about her struggle on her Instagram account. But then, Erin's best friend Rachel Checolinski offered her help.

Rachel, mother of three children herself, offered to be Erin's surrogate. In January of 2018, two of Erin's embryos were transferred into Rachel's uterus and one of them settled in. By the end of the month, Rachel was officially pregnant with her best friend's first child. Over the next nine months, the two friends stayed close to each other and Erin was there for every step of the pregnancy. On September 19, little baby Scottie finally arrived in the world. The moment when Erin was able to hold her newborn son for the first time is just heartwarming to watch.
