New Evidence Suggests King David's City Was Exactly Where The Bible Said It Was

Until 1902, mountain gorillas were believed to be a myth until a scientist proved otherwise. Until 1822, the city of Troy, subject of Home's Iliad, was believed to be a myth until an archaeologist proved otherwise.

Today, some parts of the bible are believed to be mythical, such as the Biblical city of Eglon, and even the existence of Kings Saul and David. But a new archaeological site is a surprisingly good match for the descriptions of the city and may even prove that King David was real. Archaeologists are suggesting they may have found it and may be able to prove that, like Troy, it's an actual historical city.

Humorously, the site was found by following mole rat paths. This exciting new find is in a valley near the Hebron hills in Israel. The location is called Tel 'Eton.

Carbon dating places the new find in the right era. It contains artifacts that suggest to scholars that it was under Israeli rule at one time. This includes a building that conforms to 'the four-room house' construction that Israelis practiced, but almost no one else did. This is suggestive of Israeli influence in the city.

Although there is, as yet, no direct evidence of King David, there is enough circumstantial evidence that fits biblical descriptions to have scholars excited at the possibility. They deem it "plausible" that King David was here.

Additional valuable artifacts at the site include loom weights, pottery, and arrowheads, all potential treasure troves of cultural information. Researchers currently believe the city was destroyed in 701 BCE by the Assyrians.

There are skeptics and critics who would like to dismiss the Bible whole cloth as mere myth and stories. Such people may argue that the archaeologists involved in work on sites that support the history found in the Bible are trying to make their finds fit the Bible. But archaeology is a well-developed field with little room for such people, and the Bible is potentially an accurate history
