Great relationships are built on integrity and trust. But you need to know how you can recognize people with these traits.

It’s not always easy to determine if those in your life are actually trustworthy. But, you can watch their habits and actions to get an idea of what kind of person they are. Here are 15 traits that are common in people that have true integrity.

1. Accountability

Every single person will make a mistake at some point or another but a person that has true integrity will step up and take responsibility for their actions. They’ll be the first one to admit they made the mistake and start looking for a way to handle it.

2. Trustworthiness

This goes beyond keeping that little secret between friends. A real trustworthy person means that they’ll be there for someone no matter the circumstances.

3. They don't want the spotlight

In an office setting, it’s very important to work as a team. If one person takes credit for everything, you’ll not likely want to be working with them again. This type of person can really affect the environment in the office or possibly at home too. Getting credit for the things you are a part of is very important. Being able to work as a one when on a team while sharing responsibility and credit is very important and shows that someone has high integrity.

4. Reliability

This one can be a big clue. If a person promises you something but never delivers, you are likely not going to rely on them again or at least be very sheepish the next time around.
Integrity means that you must be reliable and follow through with the things you have promised.

5. They're humble

Keep an eye out for those that constantly avoid compliments and praise. Tell them they are important and remind them of their value. Let them know that it’s ok to accept acknowledgment and praise. You may be able to determine someone’s integrity simply by the way that they handle compliments.

6. They find outcomes

Due to human nature, people do and will argue at some point in their lives. Most people that have high integrity won’t spend a lot of time arguing their point. Instead, they’ll work on finding a solution or compromise that works for both parties in the arguments.

7. Generosity

The next time you really want to check out if someone is generous, take them to a restaurant. Observe how they interact with the waiter and what kind of tip they offer to leave.

A generous person will be more than willing to hand over a great tip for great service and will likely still leave a tip even for sub-par service. 

8. They're genuine

A genuine person will be sincere in every single thing that they do. If you find a person that is of integrity, you know that when they give you a compliment, they truly mean it.

Or, if this person asked about your life, you know they truly care about your life. People who are genuine tend to be very direct and call things like they are. Not that they are being mean, but they are able to see and call things out in a frank manner. This is a great characteristic for someone to have.

9. They help out

I’m not talking about donating clothes to the local thrift store or food to the local pantry. I’m talking about helping others when they truly need help, without being asked to.

People are very selfish with their time, but someone who is willing to give up their time to help someone else is a person that you want around. This means they care for others in a deep manner.

10. They praise others

Often times you’ll find those people that tear people down. Every single person needs someone to lift them up and support them. Those people with integrity will go above and beyond some simple praise.

They’ll hold you to your goals and do what they can to help you achieve them. They want you to feel good about yourself and want you to succeed.

11. Kindness

This is very important to those with integrity and is one of their top priorities. A person with integrity doesn’t like to see anyone have a rough day and will go out of the way to try and make that person feel better. They are always willing to go the extra mile to see someone smile.

12. Intuition

Someone who has good intuition is able to read you and you may be surprised at how well. They’ll be able to read you even if you try to hide your feelings. This is because they’re intuitive. This is a very valuable trait to possess.

These type of people will know exactly how you are feeling. They’ll be able to tell when you are upset or when things aren’t just right, and they will want to fix things when they aren’t. They want everyone to be as happy as possible all the time.

People with high integrity will use their intuition wisely to strengthen their relationships with others and have also been known to use intuition for mediation purposes.

13. They value time

Your time is important and those that have integrity know this. They will always find time for you and be able to fit you into their schedule.
This is very important to them as they will always show up to appointments and be on time. They value and respect your time and want you to know it.

14. They look for the best

People with integrity usually take people at their word. They will always be looking for the best in everyone, not like those that seek out the worst. This is a trait that is very valuable to have and not too many people do.

15. They believe in others

Genuine people are the ones that can be trusted and relied on. And, for people that have integrity, you’re in a good place with them until you give them a reason not to be. If you tell them you’ll pay them back, they’ll believe you and won’t say anything about it because they believe you.
