Neighbors Spend 3 Days Helping Elderly Disabled Vet Clean Up Overgrown Yard After Complaints

We all like to believe that technology and the internet are wonderful inventions. These tools have so much potential to make the world a better place. While this is true in many cases, there are often times when the internet caters to the negative aspects of human nature.

Unfortunately, social media platforms focused on specific neighborhoods can often be the nastiest places. On these sites, neighbors will anonymously complain about somebody living next door without any sense of remorse. However, one man in Georgia decided to react out of compassion rather than aggression.

One day, Joe Ward turned on his phone to see what heated conversations were happening on a local app for his small town of Woodstock, Georgia. On one of the site's of his neighbors, he saw people complaining about an overgrown yard. Although these complaints aren't uncommon, Joe wasn't happy with the online complaint.

Joe Ward believed that being a stand-up member of the community meant more than posting in online forums or chats. Instead of venting his frustrations online like everyone else, Joe decided to take another, more constructive course of action. He drove through his neighborhood to talk with the owner of the property in question.

All of the negative comments surely would have ceased if the app's users would have seen what Joe encountered that day. The individual living in the house with an overgrown yard wasn't a lazy or careless person. Instead, Joe encountered an elderly man who was trying his best to rectify a difficult situation.

According to KOKI-TV, the older veteran was actively trying to clear his yard when Joe arrived. However, the man's emphysema made it nearly impossible for him to make any noticeable headway. Joe reported that the man was lifting brush by himself. Instead of offering to help their 80-year-old neighbor, most people in the neighborhood resorted to online complaints.

Joe decided to put an end to the cycle of negativity and miscommunication. He organized a group of volunteers to start working on the elderly veteran's yard. It's beautiful to see members of a community coming together to help each other. Instead of complaining in an online chat room, there need to be more neighbors like Joe. A simple visit turned a potential altercation into an act of kindness.
