Neglected Shelter Dog Huddles In The Corner Of His Cage, Too Scared To Let Anyone Near Him

Dogs bring so much joy into the world, particularly the lives of the human companions with whom they spend their time. It's especially sad, then, to witness a dog who cowers in terror at the approach of a person. One such dog was Stewart, a pooch who was found horribly abused, with a belt so tight around his neck that it could only be removed under anesthesia.

Poor Stewart had known nothing but cruelty from the human who was supposed to care for him, and as a result, when he arrived at the shelter, he refused to allow staff and volunteers to get close to him. That all changed after a powerful encounter with a woman named Rebecca.

As a professional photographer, Rebecca was able to take pictures of Stewart and post them online, generating a great deal of interest from denizens of the Internet.

She shared some details about his backstory and disposition, and eventually, Stewart's story caught the eye of director of Special Needs Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation, Courtney Bellew. It was at this point that he was able to have the belt removed.

At the same time, he got neutered and received other medical attention. After such a long time of living in fear and misery, Stewart began to allow himself to embrace life, and instead of hiding in a corner, he could be seen wagging his tail with glee more and more often.
