First selected by the Detroit Pistons in the 2012 NBA Draft Pick, Andre Drummond has established himself as one of the top players currently in the league. In a video posted to Drummond’s social media on August 12, 2021, the basketball star has also made it clear that he is an excellent father.

Drummond was born on August 10, 1993, in Mount Vernon, New York. The athlete is 6’10’’ and was considered one of the top high school basketball players in his graduating class of 2011. He is now a two-time NBA All-Star that just signed to the Philadelphia 76ers. Drummond has led the league in rebounding four times in his career. He was also a member of the 2014 U.S. national team that won a gold medal in the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

In 2020, Drummond was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers and then, after a buyout agreement, moved to the Lakers in 2021 for the remainder of the 2020-2021 season. He then decided to sign to the 76ers later in 2021.

Drummond was captured on video rescuing his 2-year-old son after he had fallen into a pool. In the video, you can see little Deon sitting on the edge of the pool when he suddenly topples in. In a flash, Drummond jumped in the water to grab the toddler and hand him off to another adult.

You can hear screaming in the video as the other adults looked on in worry as Drummond jumped into the pool. The basketball player acted heroically, never hesitating to save his son despite being fully dressed when he leaped into the water. Read on to hear more about this shocking rescue.

The footage of the star is incredible. Drummond posted the video, which looks like it was filmed on a security camera, to his Twitter page. In the caption, he wrote: "NOT ALL HEROES WEAR CAPES. A parent’s worst nightmare...Feat. my son & I." He added at the end of the message, "No one was harmed in this video."

At the end of the video, you can hear the child being scolded for being too close to the pool. "Deon, no more. You don't do that," one of the other adults said to the toddler. It is a blessing that Drummond was there and acted so quickly. Little Deon is perfectly safe and sound, according to his father.

Many people commented on the video and had valid criticisms for the other adults who did not do much to try and save the boy. The majority of people said that they were impressed by Drummond’s reflexes and the way he quickly jumped into action to save his son.

One commenter wrote: “You can't take your eyes off young ones, especially if you have a pool. Bravo to dad for saving his young son.”

Drummond put his athletics to heroic use that day. Another person added, “Thank God for the Laker’s training and instinct!”

Children that are around Deon’s age are at high risk for drowning accidents. The CDC said: “More children ages 1–4 die from drowning than any other cause of death except birth defects. (And) drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death after motor vehicle crashes.”
