Bellamy was a legendary conservationist who presented various nature TV shows with a unique charm thanks to his distinct voice. News of his death was announced by his organization, the Coversation Foundation, which engages in environmental issues.

“Sadly, I have to report that David Bellamy died this morning. David and I worked together on a variety of projects in various places since launching the Conservation Foundation in 1982," stated its director David Shreeve as per The Guardian

“He was a larger-than-life character who became a very special friend and teacher. He inspired a whole generation with his wide range of interests and enthusiasm, which knew no bounds. The Conservation Foundation was very special to him and so today is very sad for all of us.”

Bellamy presented a number of television shows including "Bellamy On Botany" and "Bellamy’s Britain" among others. He initially studied botany at Durham University where he met his wife Rosemary and later taught, and attributes a visit to Scotland to sparking his love of plants, according to the BBC.

Bellamy was thrust into the public spotlight for his role as an environmental consultant when the 1967 Torrey Canyon oil spill occured off the coast of the British isles. He will have a legacy of convservationism and care for the environment, as well as inspiring generations of young learners. Soccer player Stan Collymore tweeted his condolences, saying "Another childhood icon passes. Learnt about botany and shrubs and trees as a kid because of this man's love and infectious enthusiasm."

Rest in peace to David Bellamy. Please pass on this unfortunate news to those who might not know yet.
