Naomi Campbell Reveals How Having Her First Child At 51 Was 'God's Greatest Blessing'

Jun 22, 2022 by apost team

Naomi Campbell is one of the world's most beautiful women, and even now that she's reached her 50s, she's still incredibly gorgeous. Being one of the original five supermodels, her lifestyle for many years of her life included jet-setting around the world, attending fabulous parties, wearing gorgeous designer dresses, and being friends with a host of famous faces. What's incredibly impressive is that she's still working as a model! Last pictured walking the catwalk for Michael Kors in April, Campbell has proven time and time again that age is nothing but a number.

But on top of her work in fashion, Campbell is also an activist who campaigns for various charities and brings awareness to societal issues. She uses her presence on social media to highlight the problems that are dear to her heart and often interviews celebrities about causes they're passionate about too.
With her hectic life, you'd think that Campbell would have no time for a personal life, and that's partly true. Having dated a string of notable men over the years, Campbell has actually been engaged twice, but both unions didn't make it to the altar. She's also spoken about wanting to become a mother at some point, but it wasn't a decision she had ultimately decided until she had her first child at the age of 51.

Now that Campbell is experiencing motherhood on her own terms, the icon has opened up about what it was like to become a mother at a rather unconventional age.

Read on to learn more about how Campbell was able to have a healthy pregnancy in her 50s and to learn more about what it's like for her to raise her first child.

Back in May of 2021, Naomi Campbell's major baby news had caught the world by surprise. Posting to her Twitter account, the model shared a discreet photo that showed her daughter's tiny feet in her own hands. Wearing a pretty white dress that is embroidered with flowers, the image is simply adorable. She captioned the post:

"A beautiful little blessing has chosen me to be her mother, So honoured to have this gentle soul in my life there are no words to describe the lifelong bond that I now share with you my angel. There is no greater love."

On the reciprocal Instagram post, Campbell tagged her own mother, Valerie Morris-Campbell, in the image. The model's famous friends wasted no time in congratulating her. Designer Marc Jacobs wrote:

"Oh my God!!!!! Today is the day?? How absolutely incredible. How lucky she is and how lucky you are! What a wonderful Mother you will be. Blessings all around."

Meanwhile, British Vogue editor Edward Enninful hinted that he'd already met the little bundle of joy:

"Seeing the two of you together made my year. You will bring each other so much joy @naomi."

Popstar Rita Ora also wrote, "No one deserves this more," while English actress Jamie Winstone added: "Wow congratulations Naomi. BIG, BIG LOVE, wow you're a Mama." Other celebrities who left messages included Zoe Saldana, "Game of Thrones" actresses Sophie Turner and Gwendoline Christie, fashion designer Riccardo Tisci, Spanish singer Rosalia, and more. It's clear that many of Campbell's famous friends are absolutely thrilled at this new chapter that awaits her in life.

Over the last years, Campbell has spoken in interviews about wanting children, but it appears she's changed her mind a few times before saying yes. In 2017, while speaking with the Evening Standard, she revealed her desire to have children and admitted her age didn't concern her. She said:

"I think about having children all the time. Now with the way science is I think I can do it when I want ... I'll see what the universe brings me. For now, what the universe has delivered is very much in the spirit of a 'chosen family.'"

However, just two years later, in 2019, she admitted she wasn't quite ready to become a mother just yet, according to The Sun. At the time, she said, "Not yet — I'll see what the universe brings me." Well, it seems the universe knew it was her time soon after that!

At the time, the model was dating former One Direction member Liam Payne, but after a brief two-month romance, the couple called it quits. Prior to that, she had dated British rapper Skepta. The two men she has been engaged to in her life include U2 bassist Adam Clayton, whom she was with from 1993-1994, and Formula One racing boss Flavio Briatore, whom she dated on and off from 1998-2003.

Campbell, whose career spans over three decades, has graced over 500 magazine covers during that time. She's also broken boundaries by being the first black model to appear on TIME magazine, French Vogue, Russian Vogue covers, and the first British black model to cover British Vogue.

Campbell also told Vogue Arabia that she believed having children would help her keep her inner child. "I'd love to have kids. I don't discount anything in life. I love kids and always will," she said. "When I'm around children, I become a child myself. That's the little girl I don't ever want to lose," the icon shared

A source close to the star told People that the super-model had always wanted to be a mother.

"She's wanted a baby for a long time, more than 10 years," the source said. The source also said that she is an icon as a celebrity, and she'll be an icon as a mother as well. In 2019 Campbell shared with the Wall Street Journal it was all about timing in her life.

"And anyone who's surprised Naomi is having a baby on her own, her own way, and on her own timetable doesn't know Naomi Campbell," the source shared. "Hasn't she redefined everything she's ever touched?" the source added to People

Her daughter seems as precious as gold from the supermodel's social media pages. The star has posted candid pictures of her and her sweet baby girl for the whole world to see and adore. In May of 2022, Campbell celebrated her first Mother's Day with her daughter. She posted a picture celebrating the day and wrote, "1st Mothers Day UK 🇬🇧 Gods Greatest Blessing !! #happymothersday #blessed #grateful ❤️🙏🏾"

The post had over 225,000 impressions. You can keep up with the mega model on her Instagram page with nearly 13 million people.
