Mother Suffering From Dementia Regains Memory After Son Helps Her Switch Diets

When Mark Hatzer noticed his mother's forgetfulness three years ago, he was forced to admit her into a hospital for her own safety. Her memory had deteriorated so much that she could not recognize her son and accused the nurses of attempting to kidnap her. This took an emotional toll on Mark since he had also lost his father to a heart attack in 1987 and his mother's dementia left him without two parents.

With her unable to recognize him, it's as if she didn't even have a son anymore.

Mark describes this experience as "a double act that went everywhere together" and feeling "despaired and never felt so alone as I had no other family." The family ran smoothly during the day but was overcome by crises every night.

Despite this, Sylvia was not put on medication but rather assisted by her son with the use of two foods in her diet. The diet included not only fish, but also walnuts and berries, which are known to combat the effects of rapid onset dementia symptoms.

By adding broccoli, oats, sweet potatoes, green tea, and dark chocolate into her diet, Sylvia began regaining her memory in due time.

Over the course of a couple of months, she began to remember birthdays, become more alert and engaged, eventually reverting back to her old self.

Her son added brain and social exercises into the mix as well, which are currently endorsed by the Alzheimer's Society along with the recipes. This has helped reverse the effects of dementia for many who believed that the diagnosis would have been a life sentence.

In order to counteract the onset of dementia, you need to make sure to include a healthy diet without red meat and to eat vegetables and fruit. An example diet would include fish, walnuts, and berries for a meal. Then, you need to incorporate daily brain exercises to help manage the condition more effectively.
