Danielle Reno recently dealt with the hassle of having her car stolen. The 34-year-old mom from Kansas City, Missouri was at a gas station when her Toyota 4Runner was taken by thieves. Along with the car, the thieves also made off with her cellphone and wallet, complete with credit cards.

Instead of just making a simple police report, Danielle became a modern-day Sherlock Holmes, methodically tracking the thieves over the course of two days and posting updates on her progress to Facebook.

Danielle began her investigation with her credit cards. While the thieves had turned off her phone, they used one of her credit cards at a local gas station and a Taco Bell. Once Danielle saw the charge on her account statement, she went to the gas station, where the attendant gave her a copy of the store’s security camera recording. Danielle’s next big break came the following day. This time, the thieves used her credit card to buy gas, cigarettes, and beer at another gas station.

The thieves had also started using her cellphone. When she went to the gas station, Danielle was told by an employee that one of the thieves had mentioned having dinner at an Applebee’s restaurant.

Intent on finally cornering the thieves, Danielle and her friends went to several Applebee’s in the area. As luck would have it, Danielle recognized one of the thieves at the Applebee’s she was staking out. Going into the parking lot with her sister, Danielle quickly recognized her beloved car.

After calling the police, Danielle used the vehicle’s spare key to take back her hard-earned Toyota. Driving through the parking lot, Danielle live-streamed the arrest of the three thieves on Facebook. Shockingly, one of the thieves, 27-year-old Lindsey Custer, was holding Danielle’s wallet, keys, and even shoes at the time of her arrest.

Custer, who has been charged with two felonies, including tampering with a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property, says that the car had been given to her and she didn’t know that it was stolen. In an interview with Inside Edition, Danielle says that she is happy that she was able to bring the thieves to justice.

The young mom also said that she’s not sure if she wants to keep the car anymore. Danielle told reporters that after the car was stolen, the thieves had loaded it up with garbage and dirty clothes, leaving it with an overpowering odor.
