Mother Sparks Discussion With Clip Explaining The Sad Reality Of 'Daddy Privilege'

Dec 07, 2021 by apost team

Moms work tirelessly to take care of their kids, and often it is a thankless job. This began to bother one mom after she realized that her husband, the kids' father, gets way more credit and attention when caring for his children out in public. She called it "daddy privilege" and the "daddy hero treatment." Many users came to the woman's side and agreed that moms deserve to be recognized for their hard work as well.

Chloe, who goes by @chloebluuffcakes on TikTok, posted a video sharing a story that happened to her in her recent life. She began by explaining that she has a seven-year-old named Mason and a 6-month-old named Theodore. Chloe also owns her own business, a bakery that she operates on top of being a mom. Owning a bakery means you need to go to restaurant supply stores to buy ingredients in bulk. This process can become taxing, especially when you have to carry a hundred-pound bag of flour while your baby is strapped to your chest.

Still, Chloe did this day in and day out, even while she was pregnant. And the one time her husband agrees to go for her, he is applauded and praised for being such a good and helpful dad. This was infuriating for Chloe because the people giving her husband the hero treatment are the same people who see her struggling every time she shops, and they never say anything or try to help her.

The video has sparked a conversation about the praise that fathers get when they do the bare minimum of what is required from a parent. Read on to learn more about this viral video.

In the TikTok, Chloe is holding baby Theodore in her arms while she tells her story. "So I've got a fun little story for you about daddy privilege," she starts. "You all know if you've been following me for a while that I'm a business owner. My husband has a job. I have a business. My husband has a job. Could not make that any clearer, right?" She makes it very clear that both parents have responsibilities outside of raising their children.

Chloe then goes into detail about how taxing going to the restaurant supply store is and how heavy all of the ingredients are. "So last week, on the day I usually do it, my husband had the day off, and he decided to go do it for me, but he also had the baby that day," Chloe explained. "When I tell you the way that this man was treated like a hero. A hero!"

This treatment is a stark difference from what she experiences every time she goes there. "I'm strapped up with a baby or 7 months pregnant, hauling 100-pound bags at a time of flour into the back of my Subaru, meanwhile I'm getting a whole lot of 'Nothing to see here. Just a woman doing woman things," said Chloe. "But my husband wears the baby and he goes to the restaurant depot for mommy's business and it's, 'Oh my god, look at you! Oh my god, you work so hard!'"

Chloe made her point by saying, "He's not a hero. He's literally just a father, just a parent, doing the same [stuff] I do every week."
