Every relationship is different and is full of its own quirks and benefits. What’s important is that each person in the relationship brings something to the table to help make the relationship last and prosper and that each person in the relationship has plenty of love for his or her partner. Whether it be a great sense of humor, incredible communication skills, or unwavering loyalty, everyone has something that makes them unique and that makes them a great contender for a relationship.

While most people have grown accustomed to monogamous relationships, three people are proving just how beautiful and possible it can be to have a polyamorous relationship.

A polyamorous relationship is one that involves the informed consent of all partners involved that is based on the practice of and typically the desire for multiple partners.  This type of dynamic can be a bit different for people since a lot of the world has grown used to seeing two people make up a couple. However, it is still based on the idea of loving someone else; there are just added partners involved compared to a monogamous relationship.

Alexia Shrout lives with her two husbands, Doug Shrout and Jacob Shrout-Mchaffie, along with their three children in Maumee, Ohio. Back in 2019, the three of them appeared on the TV show “Extreme Love” where they opened up about what their relationship was really like. Despite a separate television series titled “Three’s Company” showcasing that three is enough company for some, the three-person couple of the Shrout family is determined to prove that three is most certainly not a crowd for them.

Appearing on “Extreme Love,” the three-person couple explained what their relationship was really like. “Technically it’s called Polyandry, a woman with two husbands,” Alexia said. According to the Daily Mail, Alexia works as a professional body piercer and was in an open relationship with Doug when she first met Jacob. “Me and Jake were actually best friends for three years and then we started having feelings for each other,” she explained.

She told her husband about her growing feelings for Jacob, and they all agreed to be in a relationship together so long as Alexia still loved Doug “fully.” However, the two men only love each other on a surface level. According to the Daily Mail, Doug and Alexia had been together for seven years prior to opening up their relationship to Jacob, and the trio had a ceremony in July 2016 to celebrate their commitment to one another. “It was a wedding without the legal marriage certificate,” Alexia said.

The addition to the parenting side of the family came as a great help to caring for the Shrout family’s three children: sons Skyler and Donovan, and daughter Tegan. All three parents live in the same house to raise the three children together. “We don’t want any favoritism,” Alexia explained. “We want all of our children and dads to be equal.”

The trio also explained that each polyamorous relationship is different and that they’ve grown incredibly accustomed to being with each other for so many years, proving that three is the perfect number for their relationship. “It’s not a crowd for us,” Doug affirmed. “It’s comfortable.”
