Mother Rages Over Family Member Who Tried To Give Cake To Her 4-Month-Old Baby

It’s completely natural for mothers to be protective of their children, particularly when they are so young. Such was the case for one mother in London, who took to TikTok to “rant” about an incident in which a family member overstepped their bounds and tried to feed her infant child chocolate cake.
In a TikTok video, mom Katie Jones related an episode that occurred when she and her husband paid a visit to a friend’s house with baby in tow.
“Someone fed my 4-month-old baby chocolate cake and I just need to rant about it. A couple of weeks ago, we were at someone’s house and I was in the kitchen and my husband was in the living room and somebody was holding our baby and decided to feed her chocolate cake,” she recounted in the clip.
She said her husband was the first to notice what was happening. After shouting “No!” he jumped in quickly to try to retrieve the piece of cake from out of the child’s mouth.
“I grabbed my baby, stormed out of the house and haven’t spoken to this person since but I have been told that it’s not a big deal and that I overreacted,” Jones related.
She explained her daughter, Aria, had yet to consume any solid food as yet and was only being breastfed.
“The reason I’m so mad about it is because I felt like a precious moment had been taken away from us, just for the expense of someone’s laughter. On top of that, chocolate cake has sugar, dairy, caffeine, all these things that I want to control with my baby,” Jones explained.

At the end of the video, which has since gone viral and racked up more than one million views, Jones asked her viewers for their opinion on the incident.
“That is my boundaries, what I set and nobody should overstep that. If somebody wants to feed my baby... you need to ask me. Let me know how you would feel in this situation,” she said.
Jones also gave Today an update on Apr. 20, 2023, on the situation. She said the person who tried to feed her baby cake was “extremely disrespectful” and had yet to apologize to her.
“This is my first child so it’s really important to me and my husband that we spend these first moments together,” she added and explained they planned to film Aria’s first go at solid food when she turned 6 months old. “Until you have your own children, you don’t understand how protective you might be.”
Users commended Jones for standing her ground.
“It IS a big deal. You’re in the right. Don’t let anyone gaslight you, not hysterical, not overreacting. It was a huge overstep,” one viewer said, while another wrote, “Your baby, your decisions. Can’t believe someone did that. Hugely disrespectful.”
However, while some said it was wrong of the person to feed her Aria cake, Jones’s reaction was a little out of line.
“The storm out is pretty dramatic,” one comment read, as another user said, “Valid reason yes. But you need a better reaction which would be to explain yourself and ask it to not be done again.”
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends babies only be fed breastmilk for about six months, after which solid foods can be introduced. However, this can start earlier, such as at four months, if the baby has doubled their birth weight.
