Mother Concealed Recording Device In Autistic Daughter's Hair And Captures Teachers Mistreating Her On Tape

Three educators in West Virginia have been arrested after a hidden recording device proved that they were verbally mistreating their students.

Amber Pack of Berkley County, West Virginia became alarmed when her 6-year-old daughter, Adri, began to show signs of distress after attending school at Berkeley Heights Elementary. Because Adri is autistic and nonverbal, it was impossible for Amber to know what was going on when she was not around.

What was really concerning to Amber is when Adri would return home at the end of the school day with bruises on her. Amber made the bold decision to hide a recording device in Adri's hair. What she heard later that day was truly horrifying.

Amber's lawyer, Ben Salango, said that the recording proved that the teacher and two aides had been verbally abusing Adri as well as other students. Some of the sad things that were recorded included the educators threatening to withhold food from the students while also saying that they should be backhanded in the teeth according to People.

Amber said that she was so distraught over the discovery that she could not eat for three days. She took the recordings to the local police and a meeting was held with the principal.

The teachers denied that they said the terrible things to the students and instead said that they were actually just speaking to each other. Despite the deputy superintendent telling Amber to destroy the recordings, the brave mother continued her fight to bring attention to the situation.

Instead of burying the story, Amber took to social media to post the recordings. Within 24 hours, more than 10 million people had heard the audio. Shortly after the recordings went viral, the attorney general filed a civil lawsuit against the educators.

A few months later, the lawsuit was expanded to also cite Principal Amber Boeckmann and Berkeley County Deputy Superintendent Margaret F. Kursey for their roles in obstructing the investigation by hiding the evidence. Fortunately, Adri's journey has a happy ending for the little girl. She is now attending a new school and thriving in a loving and supportive environment.
