Mothers are strong. Cynthia Lauren Arnold demonstrated this in an unbelievable way when she crushed the record for running a full marathon while also pushing a triple stroller. Last summer she broke the record for running a half marathon with a triple stroller. Now she’s done a full 26.2-mile marathon with her three young children.

Training for a marathon is serious business. People prepare over months and years to get in the right shape. Cynthia Arnold has been running since she was in high school. Now a mom, she maintained her passion for running by bringing her kids in a stroller while she’s out for a jog.

Of course, running with kids puts an extra challenge in your step. The combined weight of a stroller and your child adds some serious resistance. Cynthia runs so often with her kids that she’s used to it.

There was already a Guinness World Record set for the fastest half-marathon run by a woman pushing a triple stroller. That time was 1:47:32. Cynthia’s husband encouraged her to try and beat it, and she did, by just under 20 minutes.

Cynthia’s oldest daughter, Marguerite, is six years old. She won’t be able to fit in the stroller for too much longer. That provided extra motivation for Cynthia to beat the full marathon record. But all three of her kids were also getting bigger. The combined weight of the stroller and her three kids was now 185 pounds.

Cynthia started training in the winter. Sometimes she brought her kids along for her runs, and sometimes she ran by herself. The running has been fun for her and her kids. They like saying hello to the cyclists they recognize on the bike paths near their house.

The crowd for the Missoula Marathon was incredibly supportive on race day. Everyone was cheering for her. Cynthia recorded the run on a camera so it would be eligible for consideration as a Guinness World Record. She set a new record at 3:11:53 for run time.
