Going vegan is a choice that many people have made over the years for a variety of reasons. It could be because they want to change their eating habits, they want to be more environmentally conscious, they believe in animal rights or a mix of the three. Following veganism means buying products that are not tested on animals and consuming foods that don’t come from animals, such as meat, dairy, and eggs. While some people may think that this is a good lifestyle to follow, others disagree.

One mom on TikTok has received some backlash since uploading a video explaining that she is raising her baby 100% vegan. Natasha Callahan typically uploads videos about what her life is like as a mother raising her baby and shares some of her daughter’s eating habits. In a clip from early January 2022, Callahan explained that as a vegan herself, she plans on raising her daughter vegan until she’s old enough to make decisions about her eating habits on her own.

The video has since been deleted, but Callahan has continued to receive plenty of comments from people asking about what she would do if her daughter wanted animal products. Several people have also shamed her for her actions, explaining that it’s not the best idea to raise a baby this way and that it’s not fair that Callahan’s daughter doesn’t have a say in the matter. However, some TikTok users commended the mom for her choices. Read on to find out more about this video that sparked an online debate.

Since uploading a TikTok about her daughter’s diet, Callahan has been shamed for her choices as a mother. According to Good Morning America, the mom is raising her 7-month-old daughter Oak on a “100% vegan” diet. Some TikTok users agreed with Callahan’s decision to raise Oak on a plant-based diet. According to Yahoo, one user said, “We’re a family with two boys, all vegan!!! People say to me all the time – do you give your kids a choice, and I reply, do you??”

However, many people pointed out that a vegan diet may not be the best idea for a growing baby. One user commented, “Babies need meat. One day when they grow up older they will start eating meat.” Others pointed out that Oak wasn’t old enough to make her own decisions yet. One person said, “Surely it should be her choice whether she is vegan or not and if she’s old enough to decide then she shouldn’t be.”

While some people were concerned for the baby’s health, Good Morning America reported that children who follow a vegan or vegetarian diet compared to one that involves meat typically have less body fat and a healthier cardiovascular system. However, researchers have warned that a plant-based diet could also affect growth and micronutrient status.

Callahan has since been defending her choices as a mother despite being shamed by so many people. However, the mom also said that she was open to the idea of her daughter not following a plant-based diet in the future if that was her choice. “If she comes to me and says I don’t want to be vegan, then she doesn’t have to be vegan anymore,” she said.
