The Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland in the United States is quite an architectural wonder. It is no wonder that many drivers are hesitant to cross it!

In addition to the towering height and proximity to the open water, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge also has extremely low barricades that only add to its fear-inducing properties.

The bridge’s original span opened in 1952, with its parallel span being added over two decades later in 1973. Unfortunately, there have been accidents, injuries and even deaths that have occurred on and around the bridge. For instance, back in 2007, a seven-vehicle crash occurred that resulted in three casualties, and five people sustained injuries, according to Lebowitz & Mzhen.

One death, in particular, happened when a semi-truck driver was blown over the side of the bridge and into the water, as per Washington Post. Although the accident took place during a storm, there were no weather restrictions put in place on the bridge during the time of the incident.

Many travelers say that this bridge is responsible for causing panic attacks. One entrepreneur, Mr. Robinson, has even made a business out of helping people across this giant.

Being the owner of Bay Bridge Drive-Overs, he told New York Times that around 5,800 people use their service over the bridge, assisting drivers who do not want to make the white-knuckle drive themselves.

Check out this video so you can see for yourself why many motorists call this bridge the scariest one in the country.
