Major weather events, especially tornadoes and hurricanes, have people glued to their phones and televisions for updates. Some people tune in because they have family and friends in affected areas, while others are just curious about the disaster. Others are concerned about the many animals who are left to deal with storms on their own.

Julie Wilson is an anchor and reporter for ABC11 WTVD in New Bern, North Carolina. Her news segment took an unexpected turn last year when she saved a Rottweiler from the flood waters behind her. It was during her report that the large dog came plowing through the high waters, dazed, scared, and confused.

Julie didn’t hesitate to grab the dog out of the water and bring it to dry ground. Luckily, the dog was happy to accept the help and did not struggle in her arms. While it has been many months since Julie performed this quick and selfless act, the world has certainly not forgotten what she did.

It was just this month that The American Rottweiler Club decided to reward her for her heroic act. They sent one of their representatives to her set to give Julie a “Good Samaritan Award.”

The plaque was presented to Julie on set. It was engraved with her name and a thank you from dog lovers everywhere. The woman who presented the award to Julie told her that her actions were selfless and amazing.

ABC11’s Facebook page posted the heartwarming story on March 6th 2019. They praised her for rescuing the dog even though she was in the middle of a special report on the storm. Julie, who had no idea that she was even getting an award, also took to Facebook to talk about the situation.

She posted that she did not expect the award at all. She believed that she was about to have a meeting concerning dog segments but was instead surprised by the representative of the club.

She said that she is very honored that the club remembered her actions and recognized her when there are other people doing wonderful things with animals. Check out the video below. The dog pictured in the video is not the one she rescued, but he is still adorable!
