Whether a person lives in a rural, urban, or suburban area, one thing just about everyone has in common is the inconvenience of insects. Sometimes they end up crawling right into our homes as well.

Earwigs are some of the worst garden pests out there.

They love to chow down on plants out in the lawn and garden at nighttime. They sometimes even make their way into homes and turn up in the most unlikely spots. With their unsightly pinchers and intimidating size, they're certainly not a fun pest to deal with!

If you start to notice earwigs showing up in your home, be sure to check your drainage system and gutters. They tend to thrive in damp areas.

If you're ready to be rid of earwigs on your property, here's a simple trick one mom named Alicia Heien shared on her Facebook account back in 2017. This cheap, easy, and effective idea quickly went viral.

Only one ingredient is necessary: olive oil!

Since you may already have a bottle of it sitting on the shelf in your kitchen pantry, this is one hack that's certainly worth a try!

Here's a summary of Alicia's post which has been shared over 78,000 times: Use a shallow bowl or deep plate and pour about half a cup of olive oil in it. Leave the bowl or plate in the area of the yard or garden where you've noticed earwigs. Within a day or two, the earwigs will crawl into the olive oil and die! Keep putting it out there until they are all gone from the area. That's it! Talk about a simple, quick solution!

What do you think about this ingenious idea for getting rid of earwigs? Did you try it in your yard? Did it work just as well for you as it did for Alicia? Feel free to tell us your thoughts.
