Most people with pets view them beyond an animal status. Their love, companionship, and loyalty make them family members, friends, and life-long allies.

The same is true for how most pets feel about their loving human companions. And, when there’s a separation between the two, there’s clearly a sincere sense of loss. T

his touching human-pet relationship was recently demonstrated in a video of a soldier returning home after being away from her own beloved dog.

Meet Buddy And Hannah Foraker

The sweet reunion between Army Pvt. Hannah Foraker and Buddy, her 13-year-old Golden Retriever, was captured on video. Foraker had been away at basic training for three months, leaving Buddy behind with family. Watching the complete joy and unfiltered love between the two solidifies the powerful bond that exists between human and pet.

Listen closely to hear 21-year-old Foraker choke out the words “I missed you so much” to the backdrop of Buddy’s whines and whimpers. Thirteen of her 21 years on this earth has included Buddy in her life, but she unfortunately couldn’t bring Buddy on her journey to join the Army. Basic training would be the first time she’d ever been separated from Buddy.

As an older dog, Buddy suffers from several diseases, including arthritis and an almost deafening hearing impairment. Yet, you can see on the video that none of his ailments slowed his licks, tail wags, leg-shaking, and nuzzling when Foraker returned home. It took Buddy a minute to recognize his returning soldier. Once he did, though, all bets were off on containing the excitement.

GI Joe, himself, would have to melt watching the two exchange tender hugs and comfort each other after the long absence. As heartwarming as the reunion is to watch, however, Foraker and Buddy still have a long road of separation ahead of them.

You see, this reunion had to be just a visit for Foraker. Buddy’s health and age and Foraker’s continued Army training prevents the two from being together full-time. For now, Foraker says she plans to return home as often as possible to keep her bond with Buddy as strong as ever. Plus, the two always have Skype to help them stay in touch.

Did you enjoy watching the reunion between Buddy and his soldier? Have you ever been separated from your pet? We’d love to hear your stories and thoughts, and always feel free to show this along to your pet-loving friends and family.
